A lot of people are talking shit about how tony and wolf interrupted Lizzie a bunch and I agree they weren’t perfect but I also felt like tony provided some meaningful context to the situation being the head guy on birdhouse (where the slam took place at) that Lizzie may have been too humble to say herself and wolf gave a sympathetic outsiders take on the situation, and he’s a fucking Aussie who just loves talking shit but so what he’s real at the end of the day. @ who the hell would sue them? It's obvious Tony is going to and has taken care of her, and like he said no one has ever fallen into the gap up til now. It sucks that it happened to her, and shes a badass for skating after it. But theres always risk and probably tons of releases of liability, but this seems like a learning experience for all of the skating community. Let's do that instead of witch hunting people, and try to be safer but just as gnarly - theres always risk.

@@hi_tech_reptiles Yeah, let's hope people don't put pressure on her to do something else stupid. They put a van on a forklift between a giant gap with a 25 foot drop. What could go wrong??? I broke my back in '98. Hate to say it, but quitting skating is probably in your best interest, at least the "tricks" part. Carving a mini ramp/bowl with an occasional stall would probably be okay. I speak from my personal experience. Doctors had to take bone from my hip to recreate my L2, and installed a metal plate and screws from L1 to L3. Exercise exercise exercise. Good luck man.

So inspiring. I shattered my wrist and had it surgically reconstructed with titanium plates and screws, but it essentially ended my skating career (hobby, I was no pro lol). I got back on a board for a couple years after I recovered, but it was NEVER the same. With that plus all the other falls I'd taken, including a broken tailbone and dislocated shoulder from snowboarding, I'd lost all my mojo and only cruised around. I stopped taking any risks and doing risky tricks or stunts. Besides as a means of transport and mild fun from small hills and ramps, I was essentially done. This almost makes me want to get back in shape and get on a board again. Props to Lizzie. She's rad as fuck.

Crazy story! I still think they should have called 911 for an ambulance. I get that they worried about her being taken to Tri-City but as a EMT myself. I know that the ambulance (medic/EMT) would have taken her to a trauma center which Tri city isn’t due to her injury and how high of a fall she had. They most likely would have taken her to Palomar hospital or Scripps La Jolla which is where she ended up after being taken too Scripps Encinitas which isn’t a trauma center and had to be transported to La Jolla which all could have been avoided if they called 911. Plus, it’s a bit risky to move someone that has had that big of a fall if you don’t know what you are doing. You could end up doing more harm than good.

51:30 That's rad that she had the presence of mind to not sign any papers while under duress. In America you end up signing away rights & stuff. In my case a while back when I broke my elbow cap off, they drugged me up then had me sign the papers while under copious amounts of pain killers. Turns out I signed away my ability to transfer to an in-network hospital where my insurance would have covered everything. (Usually you can transfer within 24 hours if your stay is multiple days & your insurance will transfer) I had to pay for major surgery out of pocket which set me back financially for years. All so the hospital could make a few extra bucks on the back end of the surgery. Seriously awesome that she was able to get someone not under the extreme stress of major injury & pain killers to help her navigate the situation.

Got helicoptered to the nearest hospital, which turns out is the shittest hospital in New Zealand. So 2 weeks after surgery still in hospital, had to get driven 6 hours to another better hospital with a proper surgeon, they had to re-break my my leg and redo the surgery because the fuckers had put my leg on BACKWARDS! yes my foot was facing the wrong way when i woke up from my first surgery and the doctor finally gave in to the fact that he had fucked up and got a proper guy to do it! That was heavy. So glad Lizzie came out of it ok. I hope we see nets on the gaps in all megaramps going forwards. I've always been amazed that they are not an integral part of the design. That slam Lizzie had was something I had envisioned a long time ago and I know I'm not alone in that. Risk assessment is built into skating so every possibility goes through everyone's mind.

The podcast is goodish, but y'all have a pretty hefty tendency to interrupt, almost evenly between the two but slightly more so with Ellis.... a bit of criticism, i understand it's episode one and i hope that this gets improved on because this podcast is tight aside from not letting the guest talk more :D

I tried listening to this last night because I wanted to hear from Lizzie (my heart goes out to you ma & I’ve always admired you as a skater). Not only could I not get through it, but a day later I’m still thinking about and disturbed by this podcast episode. 1) Let your guest tell their story and don’t interrupt women-especially when dealing with traumatic experiences 2) Try out empathy..I don’t know, this was tough to listen to because if these dudes had slammed like that, I doubt they’d appreciate hearing some of their own comments made to Lizzie...lastly just want to grieve the toxic masculinity of skateboard culture. That stunt is insane and thank goodness Lizzie is okay-the reality is an injury from that could’ve been way worse or even fatal. Why not an air pad or net? Why not prioritize your friends’ safety? “That never happens” is simply not a reasonable answer. Shit happens. Anyway, I never comment on shit but this was bugging me. Glad and grateful you’re okay and recovering, Lizzie, you’re a beast.

For sure let your guest speak but as far as the slam goes...she's a pro skater. Is up to her to decide if she wants or doesn't want to skate the spot.
@dougthealligator3 жыл бұрын
@@armin38822 first off, it’s totally clear from context that there was pressure for her to push herself into situations she may not have been comfortable with. Lizzie is a fantastic skater, but she skates bowls and park, not trying to be patronizing and say she couldn’t handle it but when you’re in an environment like that you can ignore the voice telling you that you’re in over your head. Second of all, the total lack of safety precaution is absolutely not her fault. Having a net or pad under a gap on a mega is straight up standard practice in general, let alone when it’s someone inexperienced in that setting. Would you look at Jake Brown’s slam on the mega at the xgames a while back and be like “he’s a pro so it’s whatever.”
@dougthealligator3 жыл бұрын
But yeah also, totally gross of Tony and the other dude. It’s almost like they’re trying to vicariously adopt her trauma throughout the whole thing. I know Tony’s taken his fair share of rough slams, and I don’t know who the fuck Aussie tat guy is, but cmon. If you got in a car wreck would you want your friend who heard about it to be telling the story on your behalf with you there?

Quit projecting your shitty emotions on people you don't know and you'll never meet. Tony and Lizzie are obviously cool, Tony and Jason are obviously cool, everyone in the interview was cool, Lizzie was nervous but did fine, they're just starting the podcast and obviously have room to grow, but jesus christ it went fine, no one had a problem with anything until fucking youtube commenters started looking for things to get upset about. You say "Don’t interrupt women," and yet you're here speaking for Lizzie and getting offended for her as if she can't think and speak for herself. Mind your own shit and get over yourself.

@@jethrorae1632 She is a professional skater. Andrew Reynolds can't feel guilty if he takes a young PRO skater to a spot and he gets injured. Woman or a man. They are pro skaters. People constantly take you to spots and is up to you to decide if you are going to skate it or not. If a skater is 15,16+ years old...they've been skating long enough to make that decision.
