His sermons and books are all feel-good, prosperity nonsense. 3) If you are worried about poor representation, Joel and American Evangelicals don't fit that category. Wiz Loo Wiz Loo Wiz Loo Wiz Loo Wiz Loo As a protestant i would say. 1. God has preserved his word. There is no instance where the church picks what letters belong in the bible, all they ever do is confirm what they allready have. 2. Sola scriptura is biblical and also sola scriptura is also confirmed by church fathers. 3. Go by traditions or what is written. These are ofc the same thing. Show me one thing paul or peter said that is not found in the bible? 4. This argument goes both ways, since traditions are not followed in unity even among Catholics and orthodoxy it harms Christianity. 5. Same with tradition. Protestantism is mostly in unity about the important things. Tradition is what really prevents people from true unity tho. Because they belive that if their traditions where wrong god would reveal it. 6. It is really the traditions people are carrying with them, even among Protestantism. The holy spirit promises to teach us everything. But when you decide to put traditions before the holy spirit you end up in error. 7. Sounds really like you are mixing in false denominations here. Protestants agree about what matter, salvation. The rest is child baptism and speaking in tongues issues, give 10th... 8. The holy spirit will teach us everything. 9.sola scriptura was not allways in written form. Murator fragment shows us that almost all letters was gathered at 170ad. And with church fathers confirming sola scriptura we have no reason to belive they would have relied on traditions for a long period of time. 10.pope is not even a word found in the bible.

Excellent video Lizzie. Well researched! The Catholic Church's Council of Rome in the year AD 382 under Pope Damasus I gave a complete list of books for the New Testament canon for the purpose of the liturgy of the mass. When a protestant proclaims bible authority they are proclaiming Catholic authority without realizing what they are saying. My advice to protestants for every objection you have against the Catholic Church investigate the Church's teaching before making a decision about a particular topic.

Thanks Lizzie Some other marks against Sola Scriptura you didn't mention.... *(1)Sola Scriptura is elitest (& unworkable practically)...requiring* (i) the existence of the printing press, (ii) the universal distribution of Bibles, (iii) universal literacy, (iv) the universal possession of scholarly support materials, (v) the universal possession of adequate time for study, (vi) universal adequate health, education & nutrition for study. *(2)Sola Scriptura is an actually an ANTI-Scriptural use of scripture...........* More on the only "proof-text" used to support Sola Scriptura (2 Tim 3:16) (a)See (2Tim 3:16) "All Scripture is God-breathed and IS USEFUL for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" Paul tells Timothy, "All scripture (He meant the OT) is USEFUL"! .......NOT definitive, NOT all-encompassing. NOT all-sufficient! (b)NB Paul says "All" scripture NOT "Only" scripture. Many misread this. "ALL statements" are categorically different than "ONLY statements" (c)Paul was referring to the Old Testament. The New was not written nor collated. (d)If you take him to mean "only scripture" (The OT), then there could never, ever be a New Testament. (e)It takes a higher authority than Paul to take his letter here, & say it is inspired. It was The Catholic Church. (f)All Paul says in this proof-text is "The Old Testament is useful" (for reproofs etc.) To get from there to Sola Scriptura is unprincipled & logically preposterous. It is a blatant mis-use of scripture to find a principle that is not there. *(3)Sola Scriptura is actually CONTRADICTED in The NT many times* Not just those you mentioned Hold fast to the traditions, just as I handed them on to you (1 Cor 11:2) "Hold fast to traditions, whether oral or by letter" (2 Thess 2:15) "Shun those acting not according to tradition" (2 Thess 3:6) "No prophecy is a matter of private" interpretation (2 Pet 1:20) "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." (John 21:25) ie Oral Tradition "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” (Acts 20:35) Paul clearly refers to oral tradition.....since these words of Jesus are not in The Gospels *"the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth"* (1 Timothy 3:15) *(4)The Bible is manifestly NOT.....* (a) A Theology Textbook (b) A Catechism (c) A How-To(Start-a-Church)-Book. Yet this is how Sola Scriiptura forces many Protestants treat it In fact The Bible is The-Family-History & Reference-Library of The Catholic Church (Which is Judaism-Fulfilled or Post-Messianic-Judaism.) That's why it is a Compendium, or Library, of many diverse writings..... Books, Letters, Songs, Proverbs, Poems, Histories & other genres, .....written over a vast span of time, with many, varied human authors.....which The Catholic Church selected as also Divinely Inspired. *(5)Sola Scriptura is never actually practised.* If the Bible was self-interpreting, once we had literacy, the printing press & cheap bibles we would need no teaching. But the Protestant rebellion was totally based around "new teachers" for itchy ears, each with their own new religion & interpretation, Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, Knox, Smyth, Fox, Taize-Russell...& thousands more. If the Bible was self-interpreting, they would have been out of a job, as would every Protestant Pastor. Apparently it takes hours of sermons & studies each week to be able to interpret scripture for yourself! The truth is Protestants are intensively taught to interpret according to new, man-made Protestant traditions. So it is "Bible +Teachers" not "Bible-Alone" Timothy foresaw this...... (Tim 4:2-4) "For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths" As did Peter.... "Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.” (2 Peter 3:15-17) Peter (The Rock) is "your secure position" *(6) Sola Scriptura can lead to Idolatrous Bibliolatry* The Bible itself says that "The Word of God" & "the fullness of revelation" is the person Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 1:1-3a; Colossians 1:15; John 14:9). The Eternal Logos Protestants routinely say "The Bible alone" is "The Word of God" & "the fullness of revelation" Replacing God as the object of faith with a created thing (even a Divinely-created thing, like the Bible!) is the heart of idolatry. THE "WORD-OF-GOD" is..... (a)Jesus Christ.The Eternal LOGOS (b)The Apostolic Traditions/Teachings (Acts 2:42; 1 Cor 11:2; 2 Thess 2:15 & 3:6) (c) The Bible....compiled circa 400AD by Councils of Catholic Bishops with Papal ratifications. *(7) Sola Scriptura serves Narcisism & Individualism* Books don't talk or interpret. The reader does this. With the blessing of Sola Scriptura, the individual interpreter can find whatever he/she wants therein. And the promise of my "Holy-Spirit-guide" divinises my ego. It is the perfect religion for modern American, Democratic, Individualistic, Consumerist, Relativistic culture. And often it is distilled down. It is a breeding-ground for joingoistic, nutshell-gospels They must be.... instant, easy-to-sell, handipak, takeout, cross-free, instant-SALVATION. You can have..."Jesus-without-the-Cross" & have "A-cross-without-Jesus"! The "nutshell"-Gospels, of different denominations, are "single-issue-Gospels" (Eternal-Security, Justification, Born-Again, Gifts-of-the-spirit, Rapture...) They may do, what they do, very well; but they are truncated distortions. They ignore most of The Bible to hang a whole new religion on one or two verses. There is not a solitary argument for sola scriptura It is a baseless 16th Century assertion. It is just plucked from thin air, and repeated as a Mantra until it is so ingrained it is never questioned. And when challenged about the baseless authority of Sola scriptura, the usual response is equally unsupported negative arguments..."Well, it CAN'T be the Catholic Church or The Pope". Another question-begging assumption is that.... "The Bible is a Theological Textbook intended to answer every question." The Bible obviously isn't designed or intended for this purpose; there is no basis for it; and it just doesn't work ....and yet still this blind, knee-jerk, reflex-thinking carries on. This is the assumption behind all Protestant theologising ....that is never demonstrated.

Very well explained. This entire explanation by itself can totally erode and undermine the belief that a protestant has about his own belief. But even by believing the sola scriptura, it is also written in the bible that the sola scriptura is not biblical. Not only protestants cannot prove sola scriptura to be biblical, but even the bible denies it.
@geoffrobinson6 жыл бұрын
Mark 7 teaches Sola Scriptura. 2 Timothy 3 also backs it up.
@kimfleury6 жыл бұрын
Mark 7 doesn't teach what you think it teaches. Consider that it opens with Jesus gathering with the Pharisees and some of the scribes coming from Jerusalem. They found fault with him because "...they had seen some of his disciples eat bread with common, that is, with unwashed hands." (Mk 7:2). Read Exodus 30:17-21, where Moses is commanded to keep water in a copper laver (basin for handwashing) at the entrance to the altar area for the priests to use to ritually purify their hands by washing before offering sacrifice. We could debate whether the "common, that is, ...unwashed hands" refers to actually dirty, grubby, grimy hands, or to the lack of ritual washing, a symbolic washing for purification, so let's consider the points: (1) Ritual hand washing is required by Scripture, not tradition; (2) Ritual washing is required only of the priests who are making sacrifice at the altar. But a tradition would extend the ritualistic washing of hands to the priest of the household (the father or patriarch) when he symbolically places bread on the table to represent a sacrificial offering of the altar in the Temple and offers the blessing before meals. Eventually it would extend to every man who was a guest at a meal where bread was eaten, and - as Mk 7:4 notes - it even extended to any man who had been to market, indicating that he was purifying himself of the "contamination" of other people, rather than the contamination of his own sins. Here we see a change from obedience to a commandment and accomplishing its purpose (focusing the priest to humble himself before the Lord by acknowledging his own sinfulness, and his status as a servant of all the people). It had been twisted into the opposite: arrogance, thinking oneself pure, better than others, but in need of washing off the "contamination" from contact with others. Let's look further: Mk 7:4 again -- "...and many other things there are that have been delivered to them to observe, the washings of cups and of pots and of brazen vessels and of beds." These references can be found in Leviticus 15, 16, 17 (and probably elsewhere), so strictly speaking they are Biblical. They were commanded *by God* for a specific purpose. So why, then, does Jesus condemn them as traditions? They aren't manmade! They're right there in the Bible that the Jews used and that you, yourself use. How can Jesus condemn them as traditions? He doesn't. As with the alteration in the ritual of hand washing, He condemns the alteration of the Biblical mandates in such a way as to create a privileged class. An example from modern times is the separate drinking fountains of the U.S. South, marked "Whites Only" and "Coloreds Only." As if there would be contamination of the privileged class by contact with any cup touched by the underclass. This discrimination is based in dehumanization, and encourages greater dehumanization, where there's no respect or love for human beings. Christians know that God "is no respecter of men" -- regardless of race, color, creed ALL belong to God. God is our Creator, and for His sake, we love one another. He made humankind with the dignity of sharing His image and likeness -- not the other animals, not even angels, but each one of us. Yet the discrimination based on dehumanization that leads to a privileged class makes a mockery of God's commandment. Those who discriminate place themselves far from God's heart. It even leads to a culture of death where adult children discard their own parents. Mk 7:11-13 says, "But you say, 'If a man shall say to his father or mother, Corban (which is a gift) whatsoever is from me shall profit thee.' And further you suffer him not to do anything for his father or mother, making void the word of God by your own tradition, which you have given forth. And many other such like things you do." Let's explore that further: Corban is a gift to the Temple, enriching the priests. Anything that was Corban is dedicated strictly to the Temple. Yet at the same time, a man was expected to support his parents, so if he gave Corban to the Temple from the wealth that was supposed to support his parents, the priests were *supposed* to reject it and correct him. To follow the Law, they could accept whatever was beyond the amount necessary to support a man and his family, but were obliged to reject any amount that cut into family support. And Jesus called the priests out for violating the Commandment, the Law of Moses, by encouraging men to treat their elderly parents shamefully. God commanded, "Honor your mother and your father," but the traditions of the priests of the Temple allowed themselves to be enriched at the expense of the vulnerable elderly. It's right there if you read it, so don't go making it about every Tradition or even traditions. Mark 7 refers ONLY to traditions that violate God's commandments TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER. May the Holy Spirit lead us all to truth.
@geoffrobinson6 жыл бұрын
You have a bunch of verses to priests you want to apply to everyone? That's a very good example of a tradition being allowed to create a command that isn't found in Scripture. Proving my point actually. It's an unbiblical command. It has nothing to do with creating a caste system. Anyone can wash hands if they have access to water. //Let's explore that further: Corban is a gift to the Temple, enriching the priests. Anything that was Corban is dedicated strictly to the Temple. Yet at the same time, a man was expected to support his parents, so if he gave Corban to the Temple from the wealth that was supposed to support his parents, the priests were supposed to reject it and correct him. To follow the Law, they could accept whatever was beyond the amount necessary to support a man and his family, but were obliged to reject any amount that cut into family support. And Jesus called the priests out for violating the Commandment, the Law of Moses, by encouraging men to treat their elderly parents shamefully. God commanded, "Honor your mother and your father," but the traditions of the priests of the Temple allowed themselves to be enriched at the expense of the vulnerable elderly.// I hope and pray you will get and understand this. If you believe Scripture and particular traditions both come from God, you will not understand that they contradict. Why? Because you will harmonize them just like Pharisees did with the Corban Rule. Why didn't they see the Corban Rule conflicted with "honor your father and mother"? Because given the assumption that the Corban Rule was from God via Moses to the elder orally (sounds a bit like apostolic tradition, no?), they'll just chalk it up as a valid exception.

The fatal flaw with sola scriptura is that, because it's not biblical, therefore it is self-contradictory and self-refuting and therefore CANNOT be true. Sola scriptura asserts that all of your religious beliefs must be found in the bible. And as you correctly point out, sola scriptura is not to be found there. But, here's the kicker: belief in sola scriptura is a religious belief. So, in order to hold to sola scriptura, its teaching must be taught in the bible; otherwise, sola scriptura would hold that you shouldn't believe in sola scriptura. This self-contradiction is what we in fact find.

@Asaph Vapor as a historian i can tell that Martin Luther would never start his thesis if he knew what would be come. All he wanted was a reform in the Catholic church. "I myself doubt about my thesis" he said. At his time he despised some protestants and saw he made a step too far in his selfrighteousness and arogance. You started to devide urself from the begining and Luther didnt like that at all. You know whats the diference between us and you? We are a 1.330 billion family all united in ALL doctrines and dogmas and we will be united for eternity. You on the other hand have 40000 diferent tipes of churches who each preach their own way. Even if there is a diference in 1 doctrine its still a diferent preech cos you give a diferent picture and faith in God as the others do. And you will continue to devide yourself even further because there are already so many of you. True we dont need to be united in human things, but in our faith in God? Absolutely yes, thats why he even established only one church on Peter. If we arent united and are instead devided in all this branches created by MEN, then we are lost. To devide is the devils work, to unite is Gods. You say catholics dont read the Bible, i see many protestants claim that and thats simply not true. I have seen other claims as well and i can realy laugh about them, for example the worship of Mary and the saints. I realy would like that the protestants read the cathecism of the catholic church before they actualy speak about these matters. You use the scripture in so many ways and make questions that are answered by the early church fathers centuries ago.

The biggest problem with the idea that we must be unified as "one" so much that this somehow validates the "true church," the fact that cult groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses are totally united in all their doctrines. Yet, they are still a pseudo-Christian cult group unified in great error. The greatness of Christ's true, spiritual church is that even in its physical diversity, it still remains united in the spirit.

JW, sda are all byproduct of the false sola scriptura doctrine. They are one of many protestant cults and sects. Jesus never declared sola scriptura, it is a false doctrine. Stop rejecting the authority of the church. Jesus never gave authority to anyone's opinion, he gave it to the church.

The problem with Protestantism is when Protestants hear "Sola scriptura is wrong," they think what you're saying is "The Bible is literally wrong."
@imalive4u1696 жыл бұрын
The simplest answer is that even though the Bible authors were inspired by God it's open to interpretation which is why there is Tradition even in Judaism you have the Torah and the Tradition which is the Talmud. The Apostles had their own interpretation of Scripture in which this Tradition was handed down to their successors. Some may even think well why is there disagreement on some things like for instance the Eastern Church has some differences in the belief of the afterlife in which there are Churches that disagree with the Western Church's concept of Purgatory being "purged" but there are also Eastern Churches which agree with the Western Church but regardless they believe there is a final purification after death. Now look at Judaism there are different beliefs about the afterlife. Catholicism you know came from Judaism because there is a final purification after death and Christ and the Apostles were Jewish. Ironically Protestants reject the idea that there is a final purification after death which also presents it's problems because we are still ourselves and many are still attached to the unhealthy things of this world so there has to be a final purification after death to change us how we look at things otherwise MOST couldn't enter into Heaven which leaves to question what would had been the purpose for Christ entering into His Glory? Christ founded a Church and He given His authority to St. Peter and the Apostles to bind and let loose and He given to St. Peter the keys to Heaven. By refusing to listen to the Magisterium of the Church you refuse to listen to Christ, Christ and His Church are united in marriage the Bridegroom and His Bride what the Church says is what Christ says.

Yes, Judaism has tradition which is why Jesus blasted the pharasees for following their traditions while ignoring the commandments of God. Note that He said that none of them would enter the Kids don't of Heaven. And yet we follow the same mistakes of the pharasees.

I found your arguments somewhat incoherent. So in 2 Timothy 3:16 it is about the OT, but the tradition of 2 Thessalonians is the oral one? Do you choose where each thing is? 4. Sola escriptura appeared in the sixteenth century because the Catholic church was doing things OUTSIDE what Jesus commanded and were OUT OF the Bible, like indulgences (who does not know what that is, research and see quickly). You say about avoiding division, but make a video of why you would like all Christians to be Catholics? What do you think of doing something about being united as Christians? 5. It is obvious we have a tradition, but the scriptures are above tradition. You say about the legitimacy of the scriptures, but what do you give me assurance about the legitimacy of the tradition? I prefer the scriptures, which are dated since the early church. 6. Paul is not talking to have sex, but not to refuse each other's desire, as this sets the precedent for adultery. 7. I do not know if you know, but the Catholic church has divisions WITHIN it. And he became more tense after the new Pope came in. www.catholicculture.org/commentary/otn.cfm?id=1199 8. I agree. We need to have a guide, but guided by the scriptures. 10. Does Matthew 23 speak about papacy? This interpretation is biased. It's about the meters of the law, applying it to the papacy makes no sense.

Nope. What produce heresies IS THE MAN. Like you say, the human condition is trictly incapable os fuch a prowess. And NO, the Jews didnt managed to hold onto their faith perfectly even in exile and great tribulations. All the time we have Jews abandoning their Faith. Like in the desert, when they say they wanted to be in Egypt yet. The biggest one: they reject Christ But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”[h] 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”[i] 19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, “I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”[j] 20 And Isaiah boldly says, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”[k] 21 But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people. And about only being possible with the invention of the press: Thank God! A problem at the time was precisely the inaccessibility that people had of the bible, causing in false church commandments and man's inventions. Sola escrpitura is not part of my faith, but it is a way of keeping me away from what is not the will of God, which in this case prevents me from listening to human judgments but to God's judgments

Do, you not believe me? Let's take a look at this document written by Pope Benedict XVI: www.cin.org/users/james/files/masons1.htm Other than that Freemasonry is something that came after the foundation of the Church around 33 Ano Domini, and even if you don't believe that the Catholic Church was founded at Pentecost and instead believe it was founded by St. Constantine The Great or some other foolish notation about the origins of the Catholic Church, the foundation of Freemasonry is still way after those dates at 1717. As for this 'serpentine building', if we look at the building overhead it is actually not in the shape of a serpent and this serpent appearance can only be seen from certain angles. It is merely a result of pareidolia phenomena that you see this face at that certain angle.

think about how the ministry of Jesus lasted about three years. If you were to read through all the four gospels, you would only get a few hours of descriptions of the words and deeds of Jesus. If Jesus preached for 35 hours a week all year with two weeks off for a little vacation, that means 1750 hours of preaching per year. That means in three years it was a total of 5250 years of preaching. Since the four gospels can be read through in about 4.4 hours, this means that the written gospels contain less than one percent of all the sayings of Jesus. We can be sure that Jesus taught many things that are not written in the new testament. This why the tradition of Apistolic succession is important. Jesus taught the Apostles; the Apostles taught others who in turn taught still others. The priesthood continues these teachings that have been handed down through the centuries.

Jonathan Lewis. The Johannine gospel was specifically written to present evidentiary accounts that Jesus was the Son of God and eternal life rests solely with faith in Him. Any other speculations about what may have been written to support Catholic traditions and the magisterium is an argument from silence. Believers are told to earnestly contend for the faith ONCE DELIVERED to the saints. (Jude 3) Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. These are just about all things I've been struggling with since converting back to Christianity just over 2 years ago. #1 is exactly why I turned away from the faith (raised Proestant, in an Assemblies of God) when I was a teenager. I was super into it and believed in God and was trying to read and follow the Bible, but after learning about canonization I was out. And #4 has been haunting me since my "non-denominational" church women's group did a Bible study on 1 Peter about a year and a half ago. One of the memory verses I chose was 1 Peter 3:8 ("Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.") The more verses I came across that mention unity would keep me pondering how I could possibly fulfill that with the individualist mentality of non-catholic churches.
@kristinacatherine51216 жыл бұрын
Smidlee I did ultimately come to the conclusion to trust the Bible in faith that God would protect His word. But now it seems to me that consistently applying that logic would mean also trusting that God would protect His (original) church, including the (His) history. Do you disagree?
@kristinacatherine51216 жыл бұрын
I mean the church referred to in the Bible, the unified body of believers, the bride and body of Christ, the church that I should be a member of as a Christian. It's not about being "God's special pet"... It's trying to obey Jesus as we are called to do. Am I the only non-catholic who's bothered by all the calls in the new testament to obey Jesus, maintain unity within the body of believers, and prove our genuine faith with our good works? I'm honestly seeking the truth here, and your trivializing and condescending attitude is not convincing as a person claiming to be filled with the Spirit of Christ.

Yes, there is no Scripture passage that proves the Roman Catholic church is infallible, but there is for Scripture 2 Tim 3:16-17. Therefore we go by what is infallible or perfect ONLY God's Holy Word is sure nothing else. Many who think they know Sola Scriptura they don't like Lizzie here. I am seriously thinking about taking the RCIA classes. I’ve always been drawn to Catholicism for reasons that I guess are yet to be determined. I do have a very strong belief in the divinity and eternal love of Jesus Christ, which is very similar to mainstream Christianity. Question: I know that you came out of a pretty strong Christ centered denomination. Do you, as a Catholic, still feel that important emphasis on Christ, his grace and his mission to save mankind?

@sterry19626 жыл бұрын
Walter Romanoff You have been misled, I'm sorry to report. There is a lot of anti-Catholic vitriol out there that is completely false and you have been preyed upon by deceives. You need to look at evidence from both sides before making your judgments. That is the only rational way to understand anything. But, you made some points - let's address them; 1. What does priests raping anyone have to do with the Church's teachings? Anything that has human beings in it will have corruption. The human side of the Church will always be corrupt. But, the divine side will always be perfect and Christ promised all of us that His Spirit will do the actual teaching through His Church and so, therefore, we can trust it. By the way (not that it is pertinent to anything) but a study done in the New York Times showed that abuse rates among Catholic priests is lower than the abuse rates in the general public and also lower than abuse rates among Protestant clergy. 2. The word "pray" means to ask. Do you ever ask another living Christian to pray for you. Aren't you (according to your claim) only supposed to go to God? The bible tells us to pray for one another and that the prayers of the saints are more efficacious than ours. It also saysand the saints in heaven offer our prayers up to God (Revelation 5:8). 3. The bible does say to call no man father, but one has to look at it in context. It doesn't mean to LITERALLY call no man father. Saint Paul actually says he is a "father" figure to Timothy. There are many references in the bible where we are to call fathers or father figures "father". Otherwise, can you not say your own father is your father? It also says to call no man teacher. Did you ever have a teacher in school. Again, look at the entire context. 4. There has never been an instance where someone was asked to pay for forgiveness. I think you were probably meaning to refer to some historical abuses of indulgences which have to do with a person offering alms as reparation for sins committed. Indulgences can alleviate some of the temporal punishment for sin but cannot do anything to achieve the forgiveness of sin - only God can do that.
@sterry19626 жыл бұрын
Walter Romanoff Here's the problem; We all know what the bible SAYS, but we sometimes disagree on what it MEANS. The Catholic Church follows, and has always followed, the biblical command to adhere to SACRED TRADITION (see 2 Thessalonians 2:15, for example). So that, when trying to understand what a particular passage of scripture means the Church always asks first, "How did the early Christians understand this? How did the apostles teach this to their followers?" Whereas, Protestants, when confronted with the same questions expressly ignore the biblical command to follow SACRED TRADITION (all the things taught by the apostles, whether by word of mouth or by letter) and just make up their own interpretations. This is easy to confirm, too. The writings of the early Christians can easily be found online at places like newadvent.org/fathers/. When someone studies the teachings handed down to the early Christians by the apostles they find that they match 100% with what the Catholic Church has always taught. Teachings regarding prayers to saints, the office of the pope, devotion to Mary, and confession to a priest, etc. Whereas, the things Protestants teach were invented BY MEN, in recent times, out of thin air. Don't take my word for it - look it up. And never, ever, take evidence only from one side of the story. One MUST review what both sides have to say before coming to conclusions.

It is also important to note which you didn't mention that the bible also has some negative commentary about tradition. Collosions 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Mark 7:13 Jesus warned "Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that". This he spoke to the religious leaders of his day and it is interesting that in comparing the two he seems to put the priority on following scripture rather than tradition and that scripture is what we should be using to judge truth. The priority that Jesus put in scripture is unmistakable. He prayed in John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth. Jesus defeated Satan when he was tested not by quoting tradition but by quoting scripture. Satan misrepresented scripture to test Jesus but Jesus answered with what was also said in scripture which brought the balance back and ended the testing by reaffirming man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. We are also told in John 8:31-32 "If you continue in my word then you shall be my disciples, then you will know the truth and the truth shall make you free". The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 1:8 "But if we or an angel from heaven preach any gospel other than what we have preached let them be accursed". Interestingly Paul did not put himself or others above using the "gospel they preached" as the standard by which they were to accept or reject the validity of the message. We also see in 2 Timothy 3:15 From a child you have known the sacred scriptures which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. We are also told The word of God is alive and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 It is also very telling that everything Jesus did was in accordance with scripture and even after his resurrection the disciples didn't fully understand Jesus until he opened their minds to understand scriptures. Luke 24:31-45 We also see in the new testament that the Apostles considered their words as scripture. Peter classed Paul's writings along with other scriptures. 2 Peter 3:15-16 Paul also seems to be aware his writings are a command of the Lord. “If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized” (1 Cor 14:37-38

@ray mon The bible contains no such expression "sacred tradition" and appears to be another term invented by Roman Catholics in attempt to justify putting themselves and many of their unbiblical practices above the scripture. interestingly the three times Jesus spoke about tradition it was always in a negative context and he used the the scripture as the standard to judge traditions not the opposite. Traditions are Ok but they are not to contradict the word of God. Many of the so called traditions of the Roman Catholic church such as the belief Mary was an eternal virgin did not exist when the church did and were not officially accepted until some many hundreds of years later and they actually tried t use scripture to justify it even though they readily admit the protoevangiism of James is not a reliable book. Prosperity gospel is that like what Martin Luther was upset about when he was a Roman Catholic Priest and he saw priests raking in the money with the sale of indulgences (which allowed people to buy their loved one's souls out of purgatory) which basically flipped the parable of the rich young ruler on it's head (meaning the more money you had the more you could buy your loved ones out of purgatory).

@@alfray1072 Who made the Catechism?
@alfray10722 жыл бұрын
@@EmeraldPixelGamingEPG Catechism means instruction from the mouth or Oral Tradition in the original Greek (Katekisos). Sacred Tradition is taught by the apostles / disciples continued by the early church fathers: "Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours." (2 Thess 2:15) "We instruct you, brothers, in the name of [our] Lord Jesus Christ, to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us." (2 Thess 3:6) "Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation." (2 Pet 1:20) "I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions, just as I handed them on to you." (1 Cor 11:2) Not Everything in Bible: "There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written." (Jn 21:25) Authority of the Church. Jesus gave the Church His authority when He authorized Peter. Such a Church must never be overcome even by the gates of Hell, as promised by Jesus Himself. We can know whether a Church has the authority of Jesus by tracing its apostolic succession to Peter. In the case of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, there is an unbroken succession of Popes, leaders of the Church since the time of Peter whom Jesus Himself authorized by giving him the KEYS of the Kingdom of Heaven. These keys symbolize such an authority, as can be seen from the Old Testament. (Peter was also the one instructed by Jesus to feed His lambs.) He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven." Matthew 16:15-19, WEB-BE And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. " Matthew 18:17-18 It will happen in that day that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your belt. I will commit your government into his hand; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will lay the key of David's house on his shoulder. He will open, and no one will shut. He will shut, and no one will open. I will fasten him like a nail in a sure place. He will be for a throne of glory to his father's house. They will hang on him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, every small vessel, from the cups even to all the pitchers. "In that day," says the LORD of Armies, "the nail that was fastened in a sure place will give way. It will be cut down, and fall. The burden that was on it will be cut off, for the LORD has spoken it." " Isaiah 22:20-25, WEB-BE Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me. Luke 10:16, WEB-BE He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these. The first, Simon, who is called Peter; Andrew, his brother; James the son of Zebedee; John, his brother; Philip; Bartholomew; Thomas; Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; Lebbaeus, who was also called Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. Matthew 10:1-4, WEB-BE Then Jesus came and took the bread, gave it to them, and the fish likewise. This is now the third time that Jesus was revealed to his disciples, after he had risen from the dead. So when they had eaten their breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?"He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you."He said to him, "Feed my lambs." John 21:13-15, WEB-BE The Lord said, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have all of you, that he might sift you as wheat, but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn't fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers." Luke 22:31-32, WEB-BE This is where the infallibility of the Pope comes in. Infallibility doesn't mean the Pope will already be perfect. It doesn't mean that he will never make personal errors. What is ensured is infallibility in matters pertaining to faith or morals. This means that we are not left without a voice guided by the Spirit of Truth who will interpret Scriptures and doctrine in matters of faith or morals. The Roman Pontiff, head of the college of bishops, enjoys this infallibility in virtue of his office, when, as supreme pastor and teacher of all the faithful " who confirms his brethren in the faith he proclaims by a definitive act a doctrine pertaining to faith or morals." Catechism of the Catholic Church #891 Without the guidance of the Spirit of Truth, the Church will be vulnerable against men who misinterpret Scriptures. It is very clear, even from the Bible itself that not all teachings come from the written word. There are traditions that are transmitted verbally. What is important is that these verbal and written traditions have been passed on and kept intact by those who are duly authorized in the Church. We find comfort when we know from whom such traditions have been conveyed as when we know from the Catholic Church that they have been transferred through an unbroken apostolic succession since the time of Peter himself.

@@robertlehnert4148 right, catholic meaning universal. The eastern and western churches are described as Greek and Latin, but my point was that the Bible is the product of the UNDIVIDED church. As for derogatory appelatives, I don't see how the Roman part is derogatory since your church requires that people be in communion with the Bishop of Rome in order to be in the church.

Example: the immaculate conception. It's my current understanding that that is held in belief to Catholics as equal to scripture because of a declaration made by catholic elders alone and not of the Scripture.

The day I consecrated myself to the blessed Mother I made a post on Instagram and he saw it. More or less I was just given an ultimatum: deny Catholicism, and return to protestantism or, depart from us. I told him I'd give him a decision by Friday but I've already made my decision, and that is I'll never deny the Lord Jesus. If I deny him, he'll deny me before the Father. Some of you may ask why I even did something that seems so foolish, and the reason why was that with the aid of God, I wanted to be a bridge builder between protestants, and the church, it seems that my time has come to an end and that's ok. I've known the youth pastor for the last 7 years way before I even converted, and he was in tears because it was so hard for him to let me go. I ask that you keep myself in your prayers, and that you pray for their conversion. "More than that, I even consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. May I request that u read 33 days to morning glory. It is a retreat for Marian consecration. I would give my left arm for u to read it and do a KZbin video on it. I. Love your common sense knowledge. I would love your take away from it. You helped me with my transition into catholism and I would love your help further with it.

Walter Romanoff I once went to a Bible Church to check it out and I noticed there was nothing being sacrificed or even remotely resemembled anything like what early Christianity church had been built on as documented in the bible. I once asked the preacher on leaving the service (oh man did his cheap colone make me want to hurl - ack!). Where's the altar? He literally said, "ain't nothing to sacrifice anymore now dat Jesus saved us? Have you been saved son?". I said, "Oh yes! I was saved and I continue to be saved!". I never looked back! The thing is with a Bible Church, 'ain't da Lord being worshiped for sure!'. No thank you! I'll follow Jesus' instruction from John 6 any-given-Sunday! +

Please define Sola Scriptura. What you did to present a straw man and then knock it down. The traditions that Paul mentions were traditions that only the church he was writing to. There are no known traditions of the apostles outside the NT. on #8-The RCC has never infallibly interpreted the verses of Scripture. That means the RC is forced to interpret for herself. There are millions of interpretations in your church. No evidence of any oral traditions of the apostles exist. The RCC was not founded by Christ. The church of the NT did not have and office of a supreme bishop, Marian dogmas, purgatory, indulgences etc. It has also denied the gospel at the council of Trent in it canons. The rejection of Sola Scriptura has resulted in your church embracing false doctrines and the scandals in your church today. Problems with a papacy: 1- Peter never claimed to be the supreme leader of the entire church. 2- The apostles never claimed he was the supreme leader of the church. 3- The papacy (supreme bishop leader of the entire church) is never mentioned as a church office in any of the offices of the church described in the New Testament. See I Corinthians 12:28-29; Ephesians 2:20-21, 3:11; I Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9 4- No record of Peter handing off his office to anyone before he died. 5- No record of anyone after his death claiming to be the supreme leader of the entire church at least for centuries.

Nice Video!! You could talk about the fundation of the catholic church, since protestants say it was founded by Constantine

Dalbra she has talked about it, but not in the context you desire. You will have to dig into her past videos as she mentions the writings and teachings of the early Church Fathers. But I agree it would make an excellent video.

L Lance I agree. Even the Bible speaks of corruption of the church before the second coming though. I love my Catholic church, though I have sisters I’m personal friends with in different sectors. If it comes to it, I pick the family of God over the religion of Catholicism. Hopefully it doesnt yet tho, if it be pleasing to the LORD. God’s will be done.

In talking about sola scriptura it seems to me that one thing to point out is that if sola scriptura were true then why did Jesus not write the New Testament when he was on Earth?
@Supablonde16 жыл бұрын
The OT was needed for the Israelite's way before Jesus was due to come to earth- do you expect them to walk around blindly not knowing what God expects of them until Jesus came??? Did you know the pope blesses troops to go out and kill other Catholics??? How is that unity??? also what scripture says you cannot use just the bible? where in the bible does it state to use the "catechism" - God actually condemns those to death who add to the bible-
@stephenellinger28766 жыл бұрын
As to your first point, my expectation was not that they had to walk around blindly not knowing what God expects of them. I do not exclude using the Bible, just using it solely: just as the Israelites did not only have the OT, they had the prophets and rabbis (or teachers). As to your second point, I do not see how this is on topic As to your third point, naturally the bible does not state 'use the catechism'. Preachers attempt to explain to their audience what the bible means as applied to the listeners current circumstance. This is not 'adding' to the bible, it is an attempt to bring understanding. The catechism fulfills a similar role but in a written way; though not eliminating the need for preachers (and by preachers, I do not restrict this to priests). All of this is to emphasis the point I was trying to make in my original comment: Jesus did not write the New Testament while he was incarnate on Earth, he preached.
@Supablonde16 жыл бұрын
+Stephen The bible is pretty basic to understand- God didnt command us or notify us we needed to make any additional books in order to comprehend or understand it better- the catechism is basically church traditions that have no basis to the bible- you can do without it! *2 Timothy 3 says* ; """""All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching for reproving, for setting things straight for disciplining in righteousness so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work""". *Say it all doesnt it* ??? The bible covers all aspects of instructing us how to live our lives- would you like to know what God condemns and what worship God approves of????????????????
@stephenellinger28766 жыл бұрын
1. With all due respect, if 'the bible is pretty basic to understand' there would not be about 30,000 Protestant denominations in existence. 2. 'the catechism is basically church traditions that have no basis to the bible': the catechism is so full of quotations from scripture that leads me to believe you never read it? 3. 2 Timothy 3 says ; """""All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching for reproving, for setting things straight for disciplining in righteousness so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work""". I completely agree, except that I would point out that no where in the quote does it say that only 'scripture is beneficial for teaching for reproving...'; so I would reply with 2 Thessalonians 15: 'Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours.'
@Supablonde16 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Yes great point- Many religions are all on a path not leading to God- even the church is divided against itself when they go to war and kill other Catholics- all false religion will be destroyed at Armageddon- Jesus said many will claim they did good things in his name but they will be destroyed- you mentioned 2 Timothy not being substantial enough- i could ask you the same thing? where in the bible does it say the catechism is needed? God says on the contrary,anyone adding to the bible will be destroyed- all man made traditions and rules have no pace with God-

You are incorrect that none taught sola scriptura before Luther, for the sake of argument, even if all church fathers denied it, there existed proto-Protestantism, among those John Wycliffe, Peter Waldo, Claudius of Turin and Jan Hus taught sola scriptura or atleast prima scriptura
@alfray10722 жыл бұрын
Jesus never declared sola scriptura, it is a false doctrine. Stop rejecting the authority of the church. Jesus never gave authority to one person's opinion of the bible.
