Lyrics:
ceilings, plaster
can’t you just make it move faster?
lovely to be sitting here with you you’re kinda cute but it’s
raining, harder
my shoes are now full of water
lovely to be rained on with you it’s kinda cute but it’s
so short
then you’re driving me home
and i don’t want to leave but i have to go
you kiss me in your car and it feels like the start of a movie i’ve seen before
before
bed sheets, no clothes
touch me like nobody else does lovely to just lay here with you
you’re kinda cute and I
would say all of this
but i don’t wanna ruin the moment
lovely to sit between comfort and chaos
but it’s over
then you’re driving me home
and it kind of comes out as i get up to go
you kiss me in your car and it feels like the start of a movie i’ve seen before
but it’s not real
and you don’t exist
and i can’t recall the last time i was kissed
it hits me in the car and it feels like the end of a movie i’ve seen before before

I've never found a song before that encapsulates the feeling of missing someone you've never met. I live alone and have never had a serious friendship, let alone relationship. I daydream all the time about my partner. Sometimes, I comment on social media as if he is a real person, recalling events in our lives that never happened. Listening to this song never fails to make my cry when I realize those lyrics are true... It's not real, he doesn't exist, and probably never will. I still need to work on accepting the fact I'm dying alone, with maybe the exception of my cats. ❤

Don't feel bad. I know loads of people who have gotten married late in life and have even kept their spouses pets. Even if those pets are housefull of cats. The real problem is no one cares about making a real emotional connection anymore. There's nothing wrong with you. You deserve love and a wonderful companion. I hope you find someone deserving of you.

I like to interpret this song as someone imagining all those moments with someone only to realize it won’t ever happen. Maybe because they don’t feel the same, they’re too scared to say something, or maybe that person actually doesn’t exist and is just an imagination of what they want.

As a 34 year old married woman who once was the daydreaming girl, hoping and wishing to one day find love, I can say with a full heart to hang in there. Do not settle for less. Save yourself for someone real. And be patient. The one you are meant to love will find you. And then one day you will be older, reminiscing on the single life and the fun of your youth. Enjoy it while it lasts. Then, enjoy your lover, because time is not a friend. So slow down and just be. And love every moment that comes.

This song makes me think of young love. In the beginning, it’s new and exhilarating. Then, without warning, it ends abruptly and leaves you aching, left there to play all of the memories over and over again. I am in my thirties now but I still replay memories of my first love and the feelings it left me. I will never forget that love and I am grateful I got to experience it. This song is so important to me. Because it's the reason why I had to stopped myself from escaping my reality. I used to have a really cute and beautiful girlfriend that I always post our convo on social medias, depicting her personality perfectly. Always telling my friends how she loved me so much. But in reality, I was the one who made her account, made our convos and even made our own story of how and when we met, how our experience and past are so similar. Everything I wanted she have it all. But in the end, I was so deep in my imagination that I forgot when I started to treat her like she's really real. Then one day, I was tuning in my radio, heard this and it hits me. How stupid I was to be in so deep with my fantasy. Even now, I still treat our memories like real sometimes. Just shows how messed up I was that my brain had convince me that it was a real memory. So for those people out there experiencing the same as me. Just know that you're not the only one. I'm in deep shyy too. 😂

This song perfectly encapsulates the gut-wrenching feeling of first reminiscing the deepest memories of a soul-satisfying presence and then coming to the harsh realization, once again, that the individual no longer has a place in your life. When i was 19 i had a huge crush on my best friend’s friend. One day he added me on facebook and i was so happy i could fly. We chatted for hours that day and i felt like this was the beginning of something beautiful. The next day i didn’t hear from him and found out later that he passed away. Turns out that the day after we talked he went to the sea with his buddies and drowned. It broke my heart and made me depressed for a long time. This song perfectly describes my feeling for that relationship that never happened. Thank you for this. It helps.

For anyone out there, lonely or hurting. Years ago, before this song came out this was me. I would imagine what it would be like to be loved like this. I remember getting to the point where I would cry every day. Then I found someone. But they were so toxic and I was lonelier than before. Never settle for someone that hurts you just because you don’t want to be alone. Fast forward. I found the love of my life. We are married and have children. He was worth the wait. And is better than I ever could have imagined I would have. Stay strong sweethearts! It’ll happen for you too❤❤❤

the part in the song where she sings, “bedsheets, no clothes. touch me like nobody else does.” entirely encompasses the feelings of total intimacy and the harsh instrumentals make me think she’s trying so hard to make these “memories” feel real. like she has to force them into existence and the she realizes that she can’t, that person doesn’t have that relationship with her and she’s accepting that it’s hurting her. her confrontation of her delusion at the end of the song is a gorgeous demonstration of the complex thoughts/headspace people can get into during their “daydreams.” it asks the question of what happens when that goes to far, and i think it shows that beautifully. lizzy is far and away my favorite artist ever and this song is a huge part of why.

At 32, and now married to my soulmate, this song makes me remember exactly how that feels: yearning for someone to love you and make you feel like like you deserve to be loved, and the fear that no one ever will, because you aren’t worth it. Spoiler: it happens. When I stopped looking for the one and focused on loving myself, he stumbled into my life. You're not missing much. Once you're past the honeymoon stage, the excitement and romance wears off and you both end up in a state of boredom and you're doing everything you can to bring back those honeymoon feelings but they never come back. Their eyes will wander and so will yours. Don't let music and media fool you into believing in fairytale romance. It's not real and in reality people are generally shit at maintaining relationships.

@@crusty3731 , interesting take. I'm sorry you haven't found a forever love. Imo, it's a question of luck, followed by good judgement. In other words, not everyone is lucky enough to meet a high quality person. And even if you do get lucky, you have to have the good judgement in that moment to recognize, treasure & foster it. I met my guy by chance. I had already stopped hoping in all that soulmate baloney (the truth is, the world is full of people who would be extremely compatible with us). He wasn't anything like what I had imagined for myself, but we've been madly in love & together for 40+ yrs. So while I understand your cynicism, I want you to know that true love does happen & does endure. Best wishes.

This song also reminds me of what it feels like to be with a person who isn’t good for you, and you keep imagining in your head what you want this person to be like for you, that you hold tightly to every sign that he gives you of being the person you always dreamed of, and you create this idea that he has everything you need, when in truth you would be better off without him. That was me, until I found the person who actually is my best friend, now partner, and it was unmistakeable that I spent too much time with the wrong person.

Lovely to be sitting here with you You're kinda cute but it's raining harder My shoes are now full of water Lovely to be rained on with you It's kinda cute but it's so short Then you're drivin' me home And I don't wanna leave But I have to go You kiss me in your car And it feels like the start of a movie I've seen before Before Bedsheets, no clothes Touch me like nobody else does Lovely to just lay here with you You're kinda cute and I would say all of this But I don't wanna ruin the moment Lovely to sit between comfort and chaos But it's over Then you're drivin' me home And it kinda comes out as I get up to go You kiss me in your car And it feels like the start of a movie I've seen before But it's not real And you don't exist And I can't recall the last time I was kissed It hits me in the car And it feels like the end of a movie I've seen before Before

I know this may sound weird but my mind changes lyrics and somehow this made me miss my mommy more than ever. Last night I realized it's been 7 years and I still ache for her. Sometimes it's so tangible I feel I can call her or go to her house like I always used to. But I can't, she no longer exists. I hope you're resting well mama and I hope I've made you proud.

This song makes me sob, I’ve never had anyone hugging me, holding hand whatever. It feels bad honestly when you can’t experience that and see others experience it. Right now I feel like I won’t ever find the person to love, since the fictional characters ain’t real. Thank you for making this song, I feel like there are people who are on the same page as me, so the sadness is like less. Plus I’m an introvert so I think a lot, daydream a lot. I think as an introvert, I’m craving that kind of romantic person who can be there with me, or whom I can hug.

Absolutely beautiful song! The lyrics of 'Ceilings' by Lizzy McAlpine are so relatable and the delivery is simply stunning. The song captures the essence of those fleeting moments of happiness and the bittersweet feeling of its ending. The combination of the heartfelt lyrics and Lizzy's captivating voice creates a truly memorable experience. The song is a wonderful piece of storytelling that highlights the power of music to convey complex emotions and experiences. "Ceilings" is a beautiful and deeply moving song that will resonate with listeners on many levels. This song is a true masterpiece and I can't get enough of it! P.S.: Also hopeful ending of the video, nice idea

i dont think you understand the song. the ending isnt hopeful, rather the opposite. because she sings about a love she imagined with someone that doesnt even know she exists. and when she sees that someone at the party, she breaks all over again.

Omg I got chills all throughout by body and felt immense sadness when the final chorus began and the montage of scenes where she's alone began to play. She really was just imagining it all in her head, a romance with a stranger. I also love how Lizzy had tears in her eyes and you could see her sorrow, it makes the music video and song even sadder when you see the singer capturing the emotions of the lyrics like that. Such a beautiful song and video.
