Lyrics:
pull the plug in September
i don’t want to die in June
i’d like to start planning my funeral i’ve got work to do
pull the plug, make it painless
i don’t want a violent end
don’t say that you’ll always love me cause you know i’d bleed myself dry for
you over and over again
doomsday is close at hand
i’ll book the marching band
to play as you speak
i’ll feel like throwing up
you’ll sit and stare like
a goddamn machine
i’d like to plan out my part in this but you’re such a narcissist you’ll probably
do it next week
i don’t get a choice in the matter why would i? it’s only the death of me only the
death of me
pull the plug but be careful
i don’t wanna die too soon
i think there’s good in you somewhere i’ll hang on ‘til the chaos is through
doomsday is close at hand
i’ll book the marching band
to play as you speak
i’ll feel like throwing up you’ll sit and stare like
a goddamn machine
i’d like to plan out my part in this but you’re such a narcissist you’ll probably
do it next week i don’t get a choice in the matter why would i? it’s only
the death of me was so quiet
no friends and family allowed
only my murderer, you
and the priest who told you to go to hell and the funny thing is i would’ve
married you if you’d have stuck around
i feel more free than i have in years
six feet in the ground
doomsday is close at hand
i booked the marching band
to play as you speak
i feel like throwing up
you sit and stare like a goddamn machine
i’d have liked to plan out my part in this but you’re such a narcissist
that you did it on halloween
i had no choice in the matter
why would i? it’s only the death of me

It's highly possible that my interpretation of this is entirely not what these creators intended, but there's clearly so much thought and effort and passion put into this project that I want to explain what I got out of a few elements of the video: The moment when she puts the mask on (3:42) could be when she decides to put on a face/persona to convince him to feel bad for her (which doesn't work enough to make him stay because he thinks she's faking it and/or because he's a jerk). Through the process of trying to express to him how hurt she is and trying to convince herself to not let him get under her skin (or to get him out from under her skin, I guess, because he already has gotten under her skin), she "dies" like their relationship -- that's why she's still a skeleton when the mask comes off. I LOVE the part with her stabbing the pomegranate (2:34) and how that connects to Persephone and Hades -- the motifs of death, betrayal, heartbreak, etc. The lighting, OH MY GOD, the lighting -- the dark hallway with a light at the beginning rather than the end, the blinding light through the windows, the fluorescent dullness of the classroom, the sunset alone on the bleachers, the sunrise with him on the bleachers, the soft glow of the church, the dusty brightness of the funeral, the clarity of the field that fades to black, the spotlight on the stage in front of an empty theater -- it all expresses her feelings so well and (despite, or perhaps because of the variety in the intensity of the lighting) ties the whole story together visually. There's so much specificity that communicates such clear emotion, both lyrically, instrumentally, and visually -- I could go on and on about how well this is crafted. Every choice in this song and music video (and in all my ghosts, which is one of my new favorite songs) is so brilliant. The fact that music like this exists restores my faith in humanity; I can't wait for the album!

[Verse 1] Pull the plug in September I don't wanna die in June I’d like to start planning my funeral I've got work to do Pull the plug, make it painless I don't want a violent end Don’t say that you'll always love me 'Cause you know I'd bleed myself dry for you Over and over again [Chorus] Doomsday is close at hand I'll book the marching band to play as you speak I'll feel like throwin' up You'll sit and stare like a goddamn machine I’d like to plan out my part in this But you’re such a narcissist You'll probably do it next week I don’t get a choice in the matter Why would I? It's only the death of me Only the death of me [Verse 2] Pull the plug, but be carеful I don't wanna die too soon I think there's good in you somеwhere I’ll hang on 'til the chaos is through [Chorus] Doomsday is close at hand I'll book the marching band to play as you speak I'll feel like throwin' up You'll sit and stare like a goddamn machine I'd like to plan out my part in this But you're such a narcissist You'll probably do it next week I don't get a choice in the matter Why would I? It's only the death of me [Bridge] It was so quiet No friends and family allowed Only my murderer, you, and the priest who told you to go to Hell And the funny thing is I would've married you If you'd have stuck around I feel more free than I have in years Six feet in the ground [Chorus] Doomsday is close at hand I'll book the marching band To play as you speak I feel like throwin' up You sit and stare like a goddamn machine I'd have liked to plan out my part in this But you're such a narcissist That you did it on Halloween I had no choice in the matter Why would I? It's only the death of me

Everything about this is amazing. The instruments. The voice. The mixing and mastering (sounds so wide and beautiful). The video. There is nothing I can fault here. I'm sat here shaking my head in disbelief of what my ears are hearing.

i heard this for the first time when you played it live in Seattle. The first chord hit me right in the chest, and as your voice rang out across the audience and the lyrics and their meaning settled, i just started weeping. several months prior i’d gone through the worst break up and heartbreak i’ve ever felt. this song was like therapy, pain, and medicine all at once. thank you your angelic voice and talent. it was a visceral, spiritual experience i’ll never forget.

@3:34 I heard this for the first time today. Me and my ex of 4 years were supposed to get married. It was so toxic, and broke me so badly that I thought the only way out was to commit. So I overdosed one night when he pushed me too far. @3:34 made me realise that if he wouldn't have did me the favor of leaving soon after that, I would have married him. And been stuck in that horrible life, cause I couldn't walk away. I truly believe I would have died if he stayed. For the first time in years, I believe that I can live again, and I am free. I would have found freedom in disguise in death. But now I'm understanding I'm free.

There was a moment in the 90s when the depth and talent for women singer-songwriter alt-rockers were phenomenal. Liz Phair, Juliana Hatfield, PJ Harvey, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple... many others. It was such an incredible period of themes and power and intelligent lyrics, as well as astonishing melody and music. I say this only because since then I've very rarely felt that in discovering a new artist. Definitely feels like you'd fit right amongst that illustrious pantheon.

My god!! I am crying my eyes out. You showed up on my recommended and for some reason I clicked it. I am SO GLAD I did. Your art connected to me in a way where I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, I was frozen. Simply beautiful and only someone who's been through something similar can understand the hurt and the deep meaning of this song/mv. This is truly a masterpiece! The shots, the melody in the beginning that reminded me of a Nirvana song, very 90's. I am now a fan!
