LL Cool J is the prototype. He is in every rapper’s DNA. He done a lot of first. He had the first mainstream battles in rap, he was 16 when he started, every album platinum, first rap mainstream love song, and many more. Just like you can say Ice Cube is in every West coast rappers DNA.

@NINJA_INVESTORS in what way? I agree Pac wasn't the most lyrical as far as what typical NYers call lyrical but most his songs had meaning and were impactful. What he lacked in word play n punchline he made up for 10 fold in delivery, message, subject matter, charisma, influence etcc. Pac was A++ 30 years later and he's still arguably #1-3

I’ve always said this. 2Pac is a GOAT because of his overall artistry, his storytelling, his message. But if we’re just talking about lyrical complexity, that’s a completely different list, and Pac ain’t even on it. “They got money for war, but can’t feed the poor” That’s an AMAZING line, it’s deep, but it is NOT a complex rhyme, at all. So in my opinion the list of “best lyricists” is going to be a lot different than the list of “best rappers” I agree with Marc there. I’ll take a rapper with a message over a rapper who just rhymes a bunch of multi syllabic words but isn’t saying shit any day. Sometimes a rapper has both lyrical complexity and a message, those are my favorites(Black Thought, Lupe, Nas).

Fuck the "who's the most important?" talk, was it REALLY that hard to understand the guy's point? You can say nothing at all and make it sound impressive. You can say the most important shit ever and have it sound like some simplistic Dr Seuss rhyme. Content and technical skill are absolutely different and when someone says lyricist it doesn't mean that you're necessarily rapping about important things with incredible storytelling. Papoose made Alphabetical Slaughter and it's really impressive, but it's also not the best sounding thing ever and it's not some crazy story or message.

If he’s not lyrical then records like “Hold Ya Head”, “Me Against the World”, “Drunken FREESTLYE” must not exist anymore. Speak on what you KNOW. LL IS the most important. He’s the prototype. WTH is this dude talking about. This dude is comparing an infant to a full-grown adult. Rap started as an infant, so if you gather crowds as infants, you are bad. We came a long way, of course the stuff is accepted everywhere now. Man, you better go back and look at some tapes. People use to compare raps to nursery rhymes. The pioneers had to make it acceptable. There is nobody more important than the first, if you were on top at that time. Not Pac, not anybody coming after. Boy Hip Hop was the stepchild nobody wanted. LL had to make it acceptable for the ones coming after.
