魔笛概要:
這是莫札特臨終前最後一部歌劇作品，一七九一年初演於維也納，演出後兩個多月，他就離開了人世。
由夜后的女兒帕蜜娜被惡魔薩拉斯妥拐走開始，王子塔米諾由於驚嘆於帕蜜娜的美貌，於是答應夜后去救出帕蜜娜。帶著夜后送給他的魔笛及捕鳥人巴巴吉諾啟程去救帕蜜娜，在塔米諾見到帕蜜娜之後他們立刻陷入熱戀，此時劇情卻有了很大的轉變，拐走帕蜜娜的薩拉斯妥不再是惡魔，而是德高望重的祭司，而夜后卻變成壞女人，而這對戀人在經過重重的考驗及夜后的阻隢後憑著愛與魔笛的力量終於可以幸福的在一起。
夜之后詠嘆調概要:
夜之后其實在魔笛中有出現三次 , 第一次出現是請求王子塔米諾 , 救出她的女兒帕蜜娜。第二次出現是她逼她的女兒帕蜜娜 , 刺殺祭司薩拉斯妥。第三次是夜之后偷襲珍珠港..不不不 不是 是偷襲薩拉斯妥的神廟。

Cristina Deutekom (she was featured here in this compilation) for sure is my all-time favourite queen of the night (decca label.) Period! If one has THE audio CD (NOT mp3 or wma or flac but PCM wav format) and has a good enough set of hifi gear, s/he would be blown away by her stamina and power and effortless coloratura deliverance. My other favourites are Edita Gruberova and Sumi Jo. Yet, their renditions are still miles away from that of Cristina.

1st Erika Miklosa (the faster version) OR Lyubov Petrova (for singing it a semitone sharp and even then in perfection) 2nd Edda Moser (the most dramatic voice) 3rd Luciana Serra (for the best coloratura technique)

This nicely demonstrates how hellishly difficult this aria is. Some of the performances border on the funny. Lucia Popp is the best for me. Hearing her I know that she is able to control the coloratura. She decides how it will come out. For many of the other singers, even some really good ones, I feel they _try_ to sing this nicely and they happen to succeed mostly, but its not their choice how they sing the small details in pitch and tempo, it is more about how they manage it.

Lucia Popp, well rounded voice, does not rush through it but seems to enjoy every note. Edda Moser definitively seems well suited for the task it provides a sweet and well rounded sound a true Queen of the darkest nights. Elena Mosuc opens too much the highest notes but is perfectly credible as a formidable Queen. Mimi Coertse is quite clear and expresive in her delivery.

+Bob Zhao Yes, very interesting video, all singers together to compare but once the singer reaches such wonderful vocals I'm too humble to decide which is the best, all are good and admire them. I can't imagine the efforts they made through years of learning to achieve singing such a hard and difficult aria. If they are able to do it flawlessly then they all are on top.

First of all... if she cannot sing the song in the RIGHT KEY - automatic disqualification. The Queen of the Night is a mean, vengeful, loud, and wicked mother and any soprano that makes this aria sound like Casta Diva - is ALSO disqualified. So the obvious winner is EDDA MOSER. All the other sopranos fall in whatever order you like WELL below Frau Moser. She epitomized what Mozart wanted her to sound like. Simply awesome.

Thank you for making this interesting compilation. There is always so much focus on the famous top notes, but what about the semiquavers with the little grace note? Everyone blurr them - only Joan Sutherland (who misses the top notes!) and June Andersen come near what's actually written .... even Edda Moser who is otherwise my favourite blurrs. I miss Susanne Elmark in this compilation - I like her interpretation of the figure .... her evil and ice cold laughter gives me the shivers ....
