Lloyd Green, arguably the greatest player of the E9th pedal steel guitar is now 83 years old. He can still play extremely well, flawlessly. There are a couple of KZbin videos showing Lloyd playing live at The Station Inn in Nashville, and his playing is amazing.

Man this guy's work is just FLAWLESS. Not a single note feels even a tiny bit off, amazing ear for pitch.

There is a good reason for that: Lloyd goes by what Jerry Byrd said long ago, "There is three ways to play music: Melody, Melody and Melody!". Because IF any musician plays the "Melody"; they have to be VERY careful that every thing is absolutely right. Sadly, MANY musicians do not want to do this (because it takes a LOT of time and effort), so they "ad-lib" where ANY thing goes. It is that simple. But Lloyd does NOT do that; unless he does a little "tasteful" bit of ad-libbing, then the melody is still ALWAYS there. This means his bar is ALWAYS perfectly placed even during the ad-lib. NO exceptions. Etc, etc, and ET-CETERA! IE: Listen to his recording of "I can see clearly now". Notice carefully HOW close Lloyd comes to the original recording by Johnny Nash. In other words, Lloyd NAILED it to the "nth" degree! So the sounds from the singer and his band, Lloyd and his band, captured EVERY nuance on the recording. Compare the following links: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKTGepqqea95jsk kzbin.info/www/bejne/omiwhqNulpuMbZY END of Story!

As they say, practice makes perfect, and Lloyd has had a lot. He is about 83-84 years old now, and has been playing steel guitar since he was either 6 or 9 years old. The man is very intelligent too. A lot of new players don't stop to realize that you don't get this good overnight.

There is an artform in playing music to begin with....but real top notch country music also has a system to ensure it all is structured to a so called T.....not every musician knows of this but it can ba applied to any music.....seek it out n make it second nature n u will always be playing correct then add the heart n feeling to it n will really have something special everytime u pick up your instrument....A HINT.....IT STARTS WITH THE BASS PLAYER!!! IN A recording session what the bass does can bring all the instruments together...connecting rhythm section with lead players, lead sections, vocals, back ground vocals, strings n such.....it gets to be so much fun creating music this way n u dont have to be able to READ music...READ with your mind......

Continued from previous....this Lloyd Green album is a perfect example of what happens in country recording sessions at the highest level......there may be more intricate music such as jazz, big bands etc. But the system I speak of is used here. The bass HAS to establish when a chord change is eminent. It cant tell u what the change is but it will tell u when to listen for it. A trained musical ear can hear or comprehend where the change actually goes n how far from where u r in the musical piece. This will make sense if u can catch on to it! Just about any of Lloyd's recording have this plus recording for others he has played on which are very extensive....Seek them out to learn by listening.
