Lloyd Cole was and still is a magical vocalist and an amazing song writer. Simply timeless, I’m now 61 and his music still moves me !

Listening to Lloyd Cole was part of the process of learning English. Those times, without Internet, it was play-pause-play in an old cassette recorder and writing in a notebook the lyrics. I know by heart all the songs in this album.

Yes, fantastic writer, they were so good. I could cry listening to this, what I would give to go back, days filled with whatever job you wanted, nights filled with great music, weekends started on a Thursday night and ended on Monday mornings, a night out with a tenner included a Chinese or a kebab and a taxi home. Men were men even when they wore makeup, women were women, children free to be children. We thought the greatest threat to our country was thousands of miles away, not in our own parliament, wth went wrong 😢

Circa summer 1984. In October I saw The Smiths in Leisure Land, Galway, supported by James. Those we're the days! Best gig I ever saw until 10cc this year in Dublin. PS Love the gorgeous guitar riff at the end.

My Ex and I loved this song and the album formed the soundtrack to our early days...17 years later we grew apart and I find myself coming back here in 2020 to listen as I sit writing a remembrance card for his funeral on Monday 🖤 Heartbroken but smiling through my sorrow 🖤

Not quite my cup of tea, i think in order to listen to this song and get through it, Cole needs you to like him, and i don't like him, i find him completely without charm. But he does show an intelligence of a certain kind.

I bought Rattlesnakes when I was 15 back in 1985, when everyone else was listening to Michael Jackson and Madonna[!] It sounds as good now as it did back then -timeless. This is a great clip; classy, sentimental and arty and befitting the music. Lloyd Cole is still making good music and is a pleasure to see live. Deserves 1 million + views but, hey, we can't all have great taste ;)

She crossed herself as she put on her things She has promised once before not to live this way If she don't calm down she will burn herself out Like a forest fire, well doesn't that make you smile? If you don't slow down, I swear that I'll come round And mess up your place, let's go for a spin They say we shouldn't even know each other And that we'll be undone Don't it make you smile like a forest fire? I believe in love, I'll believe in anything That's gonna get me what I want and get me off my knees Then we'll burn your house down, don't it feel so good? There's a forest fire every time we get together Heyey Pick you up, put you down Rip you up and spin you round Just like we said we would 'Cause we're a forest fire Believe we will tear this place down If we get caught in this wind, then we could burn the ocean If we get caught in this scene, we're gonna be undone It's just a simple metaphor It's for a burning love Don't it make you smile, like a forest fire?
