Natalie Casey visits Richard Rodgers high-tech and iconic Lloyds building in The City of London. Built inside out and entirely clad with steel, this building's twelve glass lifts were the first of its kind in the UK. Steeped in tradition, Natalie also takes a tour of the older apsects of the building. Great clip from BBC series Dreamspaces.

It's the most random-looking building, but that's precisely what I love about it.

I took a tour of the building in 2013. It's very cool indeed. They had a dress code (waived it for this presenter it seems). My husband didn't travel with a blazer, so he had to borrow one from them (he's not the first to show up without a jacket, so they have a lending service)

It was a pretty cool building to work in, but ultimately it’s became an expensive indulgence, that provided more space than was needed. And as the market moves to more online transactions it will prove even less of a useful space. And now of course, who wants to spend a lot of your working day mingling with several thousand people? And all the pipes and stuff outside? Well they rotted by the mid-90’s and needed replacing, the building is a nightmare to keep clean and over the years the lifts have not always been too reliable. But I love it, although I was sorry they tore down the old 1958 building where I started my Lloyd’s career. And of course, it pops up in countless movies as the ultimate futurescape backdrop, Guardians of the Galaxy (and Mamma Mia?)

@@franchino88 They were mainly ventilation pipes, plus massive amounts of cladding, a lot of which blew out after the Baltic Exchange bomb in the 90's. It happened on a Friday and we were all back to work on Monday despite the carnage. I was a Lloyds Broker from 1980 to 1995...they were different times..these days the whole area would be sealed off for months

She's a popular character from a comedy show (not my cup of tea) about a working (lower) class group of freinds living day to day in an industrial city. You are correct, but i believe the BBC has chosen her to present an alternative narration that appeals perhaps to a wider range of people. That includes wearing track suits and using profane language, as i'm sure the lady herself doesn't go round like that if it's her choice. If she does, good for her, it looks comfy. (but also 'minging')

I would hardly call myself a fashionista, but a brown track suit, really? Not sure how it works on your side of the pond, but over here, track pants are the universal signal for "I have completely given up", most people wouldn't wear them to Walmart, never mind on television.

They're not as taboo here, there are two distinct cultures, one is made of trouble making teens the other made of people like, going for a jog, casually going to the shops etc; not usually on TV though.
