One of EPICA's most epic songs to date... I also loved the connection between the lyrics of the song to the album's artwork. The main riff melody shows that EPICA can really kick arse...! And I also love how the choir sings "AL-PHA!" and then "O-ME-GA!" in such a tribalistic way in the first bridge/interlude. I absolutely loved how the choir, Mark and Simone all came together in the first bridge/interlude (almost like a point of divine unification, as Mark described The Omega Point). The Sitar in the breakdown was so good... And the intro (+intro recap) and then the seamless "slide" to the majestic outro with the children choir... That was so beautiful. That's incredible musicianship here.

I agree! Especially because I see a "musical direction". Sometimes, some people "get lost" in their exploration and influences. Not so with Epica. We feel a human and artistic centre in their journey. Great band!

Omega - the end ... End of the album, but also the summary of the album, the whole album! Everything we heard before! Listening to the lyrics, I got the impression that this song was a brief summary and highlight of everything they told us in the previous songs. I shouldn't be surprised - but how did they do it? Perfect! In the album version I focused mainly on the words, so only the orchestral version opened my eyes to the music - very clear Middle Eastern atmosphere at times - I love it - I didn't notice it before, so it shows clearly - it's worth listening to different versions, it's worth listening a few times! Mark's voice is missing, definitely, it is always missing in orchestral versions. But you know what? At the beginning of listening to the album I missed it so much, but today - after listening to all the songs - I accepted it! So - I already know that the orchestral version will not include him, but - we almost always listen to the album version first, with Mark, so we know when he sings, we know what he emphasizes with his voice. And then, in the orchestral version, we hear music that we didn't hear when he sang. But it was the acoustic version that grabbed me - it was the same with Nightwish "How's The Heart". The album version is very beautiful - I liked it very much, but it was the acoustic version that amazed me and I like to come back to it ... I think it will be similar here! I don't know if I see it right - the Hammond organ? I may be wrong, but I remember that sound - it fits! You can write a great song, great music. But - if you don't have a great singer and great musicians who will be able to perform it - it won't work. Epica doesn't have to worry about it - they have both, and Simone's voice is sparkling!

I really love the richness of this band! Mark is missing in the other versions but I appreciate the work they can do without other members. They are a cohesive unit that can compensate the missing elements with ideas coming as a whole. Joost is present with the organ.

@@guimich2478 Joost is a great musician. It doesn't matter if he plays the piano, a modern synthesizer or the organ. But I love organ music - classical and modern - organ as an instrument has magic - and beauty! Maybe it's because I graduated from music school in the piano class myself? I didn't become a musician, I chose a different path in my life and I don't regret it, but the keyboard will stay with me forever. Anyway - at home - I come back to the keyboard very often ... I can't compare myself to Joost or Tuomas - it's a different league. But - the pleasure of communing with this instrument is amazing!

@@marek3707 I am in a league of my own because I do not play an instrument. Joost, Coen and Tuomas are pretty special entertainers! We I talk about music it's always from a point of view of a profan that cannot read or play music. My ears can differenciate some parts but I am not like you or Guylain. My persepctive comes from another approach. Music classes were always a pain back then because I am handicapped on my left hand from birth. Playing the flute was miserable! How well I am still on a different journey!

One thing I learned, Guy and Marek : professional formation in music does not always rhymes with greatness in composition and appreciation. I do not have a formal formation in music, and I was for a while a member of the SPACQ (Société professionnelle des auteurs-compositeurs du Québec). Many professional musicians told me that "I got it", composing melodies and writing words... Still I needed these pro-musicians to make my "vision" for becoming reality. When the music is great, when the words are inspiring, it is amazing to see people of great talent to come together and work at the creation of something great. EPICA has a ll of this : great lyrics, great composers and great meaning. They do that with their own unique recipe. That is why they are so unique... We will come back to them in the future. No doubt about that!

The orchestral and acoustic versions really amazed me - throughout the album, but for the closing song particularly. I LOVED the classical progressions on the orchestral rendition, and even more so the atmosphere created by the acoustic "Hammond" version. :) So creative and at the same time, pleasant to listen to (yes, Metal can give so much pure pleasure, the mainstream ought to know ;D)! I guess my ultimate point as regards the music on this latest release is the songwriters of the Symphonic metal sub-genre are in a class hardly touched by numerous peers, including those in Prog and Jazz definitely not lacking in ambition. I am of late on a huge "rediscovery" of Classical music, and all I can say, Mark, Tuomas and the select few of their colleagues are not just Metal songwriters (anymore, anyway :))), but rather COMPOSERS of absolute music through modern means. They deserve to be viewed outside of any genre categorizations. Thank you for making this journey with us, already looking forward to the round-up.

Merci Guylain!! Well the end of the road with this amazing Epica album, exept you still got the analystic video to come.. i have seen everything you did react/analyze on this journey, and it have been a ejoyment doing it, getting another perspective on some of the song, then i did have before, a better understanding, and yes just listen to good music.. I dont know if you plan to do another band after this journey, i got one i would like you to react to, but im not sure its for you, well i give it a shoot ok..lol Its Ayreon.. and the album The Source i would like you to react to, now Ayreon is actually run by one guy named Arjen, he makes a project that is a story, told in songs, and invite singers, and musicians from all over the world to join hes project, and in the project The Source he invite 11 main singers, and a good handful of musicians to make this project, and they are all amazing i tell you that.. i can name a few of those singing.. Simone Simmons and Floor Jansen.. lol.. then there is 9 other singers in this top catogory of singers, its really a amazing project.. Now the story is a little Sci - fi.. so im not sure this is for you?? the story is very short told about humans living on the planet Alpha in the Adromeda Galaxy, teknology have run amok, and now control the planet, and is forcing the Alphans to leave the planet and search for a new home, .. ok so thats very short what its about.. But the amazing part in this is of cause how this project is made by Arjen, and all this invited guest stars from all over the world, and this is basicly prog, which i know you like.. i will post a link below for the album lyric video, its all songs in one take on this one.. there is also a few of the songs with live versions, and the opening song also got a seperate video... first link is for the total story.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rH-QnJWjhsierZo I will also put the link for the opening songs separete video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXfYfn6ap9-Dp7c Now i edit my post again, as i just make the though, that picking out 10 Ayreon songs could be a good option to, that way you wont get the full story, buty i might be easier to find some live clips and yes just the best songs.. i think it could be the best option actually.. so maybe make a vote for top 10 Ayreon sonng to react to, could be great!!

Hello René, You arrive in a good time. I will do something light in July, but begin something or Ayreon in early August, yes. In fact, I hesitate between "great songs" or "a great album". This is my only concerns. Many fans suggested me to take one great album, instead. Would that be a good suggestion, from your perpective? It seems to agree with your suggestion, here. So, yes. I will, dear René. And thanks for being there during this whole journey! Guys like you make this channel great. Thank you for being there!

@@GuylainPrince Its true enogh that every Ayreon album is a story, and you will miss out the storyline if you dont listen to all songs in order on a album.. you can still enoy the seprate songs for the songs they arew, but might be hard to make sense of the lyrics not getting the story, hmmm.. well you also have to like Sci-fi, as albums ihave topics like computers taking over the world, the dimesion betwwen dead and afterlife, a man doing maths on a blackboard to find the theory of everything, there is also one a bit less sci fi, where topic is a man in a coma, going though all emotions.. yes i might say you should get the storyline, thinking about it, then maybe do 3 songs in one video, as some is just short prolugues and short tellings...

The orchestral intro had me thinking of a natural version of Europe's "The Final Countdown" Which in a way makes sense, as I feel a journey in this song. During the middle section of the first two versions I kept thinking back to the warnings on old sailing maps. In the unexplored edges of the maps, amid fanciful drawings; "Here there be Monsters" The middle section in the orchestral version sounded a bit funny to me, as all I could hear in my mind was every "danger" motif from every game I've ever played (I'm looking at you Mario and Luigi). In the acoustic version, it almost felt like cowboys or a wagon train in a 70's western were on their way to seek out a new life.

The sound and feel of the acoustic version is very surprising to me as well, considering the content. I agree. In fact, the whole Omega song, in general is an unexpected choice for the end, even if the title is quite clear it is. See you at "overview" of the whole album, beginning of July. Peace!

The search goes on and on... Epica does not want resolution! I think this approach is interesting and the struggle is an neverending story. This song is great closure, maybe the rythm sections block a perspective on the orchestration but nothing is perfect in life! When you listen to the other versions you can see more clearly the way the grooves come along. I pleasently like that we can have different versions to appreciate the boldness of this band that is for me a dynamo in motion and can pretty much do anything they want. There spectrum is through the rough.
