So the big question some of you may have on your lips is why I don’t upload as often as I used to. Well now I can tell you that I am now a fully qualified Train Manager for LNER based at London Kings Cross, this along with the Nene Valley Railway has meant that KZbin has taken a backseat but here’s a short clip for you all of 2 Azuma’s coupling together. Enjoy:)

I wondered how they did that. I thought they took the cover right off and kept it somewhere else. I didn't know it folded inside.

I was kinda expecting them to shut the cabs down automatically when the units detected a successful coupling, like how Desiros do

Interesting - exactly the same technology and procedures for Japanese Shinkansen! The Hitachi connection I guess. The couplings are so similar, you wonder if you could couple a Shinkansen to an Azuma!

nothing to do with Hitachi or Japan. The coupler is a Dellner, from Sweden, and used throughout Europe and beyond.

coupler has to meet the UK/European standard so Hitachi just incorporates parts made by the supplier (no point in making their own). maybe it has some extra automation or signaling exclusive to Azumas though, since they need to couple and decouple quite often. the nose cone retraction mechanics is indeed the same as the Shinkansen, but i’m not sure if it’s a Hotachi thing. the Shinkansen are made by multiple Japanese train makers (too many for a single company) so probably they all share the technology to some extent

Its a Scharfenberg Coupler and this fully qualified Train Manager uploader thus not even know that! He calls it LNER Azuma coupling🤦‍♀

both statements are correct💀, its both a Scharfenberg type AND an coupling found on an LNER Azuma train, the latter of which is more relevant for a video title lol
