My mom used to buy scratchers when i was a kid and i would scratch off every square inch possible and leave no stone unturned essentially 😭 i loved seeing the whole thing revealed and the smooth layer underneath

I admire just how meticulous you are with your scratching. I'm too impatient for that, but it was quite relaxing watching you do it, after a long day. (My brain froze and I watched a full cup of coffee pour out of my coffe maker onto the counter before realizing there was no cup to catch it. 😂). Hearing about your sister and you having this tradition on your beach vacations was heart-warming. (Canada and Europe use grey, by the way. The US use gray. Either is correct, however.) I hope the evening is good to you, Lily.

I am impatient with a lot of things in my life, but I also get a lot of joy from order and precision, so there are some things I am willing to take some time at. ^_^ Oof, sorry about your coffee! I did that a couple weeks back just cause I got distracted by some other things I was doing. XD. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! 🥰

If a car's frame is damaged (as is often the case with a rear end collision) you cannot drive the car legally because fatigue will set in and will likely cause another accident withing six months. If the frame of the car is not damaged (and you should always challenge an insurance company to prove that it is, even if you must get your own mechanic that is certified) you can force insurance to let you ask for mechanics who can make the repair cheaper than the mechanic chosen by the insurance company. Often, repairs to cars are cheaper than what insurance companies are willing to pay, and they will total a car based on this. Also, assuming that a car must be totaled, you should always consider buying a VERY used car and fixing it up (including a paint job) as needed as long as it runs if it is low mileage. A good vehicle could be as low as $2500 and need less than $2000 repairs for potentially three years. During that time, your taxes (if any) on the vehicle should go down, insurance should go down, and you should save for repairs in an interest account (and maybe save for a replacement in case insurance won't cover it - insurance is notoriously bad about collision replacement). I mainly carry injury insurance.

Ah see... Unfortunately I had my accident shortly after I no longer had a boyfriend that would stick up for me. I am very very bad at being assertive and strong arming people. I tried to fight some of it a little but I was at such a loss for knowledge about it that I just resigned myself to my fate after a week of back and forth with insurance and the mechanic. As to getting a messed up car and fixing it- you really gotta have an in with a mechanic for that, or be one yourself. I have done just that thing and it ended up costing me dearly because far more things on it broke down quickly than just what was evident. I don't remember if I said it in the video, but I lament being in debt just a bit, but I REALLY love my Subaru, so I'm overall happy with the decision. Just working hard to pay my mom back. ^_^ Thanks for all your cool info!

@@tranquillily I've always been curious and I hate having someone tell me something must be done. Here's a funny example - I have epilepsy, so I can't drive. My dad pulled out from an blind corner (property badly overgrown) and the bumper cover was sheared off and the hood dented. The insurance company was gonna total the car. They said it was only worth $3k and it would cost $5K to fix it. I called repair shops who said it was easy to repair the bumper cover and hood for just under $1K and that painting all of it to match cost about another $1K. I hand this over to a very embarrassed insurance agent who paid the bill to get it done. Many things to repair on a car you can get used parts for easily one-tenth the price at a junk yard - but installing some stuff on a car is hard. Headlights/taillights are pretty easy though. Videos on YT are abundant. I don't touch brakes though. Oddly, we had a homeowners policy in Florida that reacted weird. A tornado grabbed a pine tree and spun it around until it broke. It fell on a little metal shed crushing it. The company wanted pix. OK, I had just gotten a new digital camera, so I took around 100 from all angles and had them printed. The insurance company freaked for some reason and dispatched a company to cut the tree up and haul it away. Then they dispatched a check to replace the shed - they paid 4X it's value. We were stunned. Something about the pix. If you deal with insurance, take pix. On cars they help you dispute claims. On house, it helps protect you. Take new pix once a year. Keep receipts about maintenance on your car and house. If you upgrade your home (replace windows or HVAC) keep those papers separate or in a binder. OK, enough advice from an old fart. 😂

Huh, I wonder what freaked them out about those house pics? Maybe they were gonna owe you way way more than you were asking if something else came to light? That's cool, I admire people like that. I was a lot more like that before I had my kid because I learned really quickly, but I feel like my son stole half my brain and I get more frustrated trying to learn certain kinds of things anymore. XD

Safety features, in an ideal world, should be on all vehicles. However, one of the reasons cars are getting more expensive is because all of the required/offered safety features add up and increase the cost of a car. The only safety feature you find included that you don't pay more the cost for is the three-point seat belt - it was invented by Volvo, who then patented it and gave it away for everybody to use for free. Although annoying and uncomfortable sometimes, this has saved five of my relatives from being launched through windshields in oncoming vehicle collisions (usually where a person on the opposite side of the highway fell asleep at the wheel, one had a heart attack). Also, a deer jumped across the road and was hit by a relative's car. Fortunately, they were only going 45 in town (deer crossing in town is rare). The deer hit was a sudden stop, and although the deer was briefly just inside the windshield, the relative was fine. Apparently so was the deer, who got up, gave a pissed look, and bounded away like nothing happened. Cameras and stuff have to be watertight and rugged to temperature. These things aren't cheap. Just one set of sensors a speaker, and lights likely costs a minimum of $500.
@tranquillily
@tranquillily 2 ай бұрын
I didn't know the thing about the safety belt! I have been wearing seat belts in cars my entire life so I have never found them uncomfortable because I don't know any different. XD There is a very good chance it saved my life when I got rear ended, or at least prevented serious injury. The guy that hit me's airbag deployed so I'm sure I would have at least slammed my head into my dash

@@tranquillily The interesting thing is that I'm so old that I remember traveling with my parents asleep in the back seat - where there was no seat belt. There were no seat belts in the car. The next car my parents owned had lap belts. Finally they got a car that had 3-point belts. I enjoyed this video.
