Experimenting with your equipment is a great way to learn what does and does not work. I only have pallet forks for my little BX and recently tried loading my trailer. I think I will try cutting my logs shorter so I can load from the back of the trailer and then I can roll the log out when it is time to unload them. Thanks for the video Tim and Kristy.

Tim thanks for all the vids. Based on your advice I ordered a 2038r with loader backhoe 60" deck and forks. I got a great deal with local dealer that got me a trailer too at cost. Not cheapest but feel good about the dealer and my spidy sense over the years has mostly been right. Will have it in 2 weeks. Cheers for the discount codes on heavy hitch too!

I have a 2038R. It's been a great tractor. FYI- I'm currently trying to make a 60D mower lift system that works with the loader. Yes, it the same idea JD has for the one series tractor 60D mower but not the two series 60D mower. I don't know why JD doesn't make for the 2 series.

Nice video Tim, I have been using pallet forks on my MF1739 for the past 3 years, just recently purchased a third function kit from WR-Long got it installed and a week ahead purchased a 66” brush grapple from Tomahawk Equipment. Been cutting firewood for the past two days used the grapple today to clear trails and move logs around it is a little better than the forks gives a bit more control holding the logs over the forks where if you would hit a bump you can loose them or they bounce off the forks. Keep up the good work and the informative videos: Thanks and god bless. J. Misch

Since the grapple is clearly meant for this sort of job, it would be a LITTLE bit more fair to have the grapple on Johnny and the forks on Johnny 2. Next comparison - pick up and carry IBC tote wood drying/storage racks 100'.

I work in the log yard for a veneer mill and handle somewhere in the neighborhood of 45,000 board feet of logs a day with nothing but forks on a front end loader. Approximately 800-850 average sized logs. It takes practice to handle them efficiently but forks can certainly get the job done...

Anxiously awaiting the details of that grapple. Hope it survives the 30 day test. Give it all ya got Tim! Not sure if it’s too big but I’ve been shopping for a grapple for my 2025R. I like the clamshell/root style and double cylinders and this is the first of that style I have seen with dual lids. Like the 1025R I can’t lift very high so the shorter tines would be a benefit for me on the 120R loader.

That grapple attachment is designed to keep load as close to privet point as possible. Looks like it works good for dumping but not so good to pick up logs. It don't go under the logs as nice as forks. One thing you need to be careful of with those girl attachment with out load backrest is it could fall back on you. When I bought the fork attachment I got the heaver fork attachment with load backrest. It's much safer but does reduce lift capacity

Hi Tim. Bought my first 1025r a month ago... my wife blames you.. lol anyhow. What is the best attachment for leveling a yard that I’ve just used my grapple to rake? Is it an attachment I need or should I learn to scrape better with my bucket or grapple. I’m still learning. Thanks
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 5 жыл бұрын
Well, there are many ways to do that. If you have a tiller, you can loosen/fluff it, then use a drag (chain link fence section, railroad tie, etc). I have just used the bucket frequently after tilling. Without a tiller, you need to get the soil loosened someway. Some folks recommend a box blade with scarifiers. I’m not a fan for this particular purpose. Doesn’t this help?

Tractor Time with Tim thanks for the reply. What I have is piles of old mulch from trees I cut down a few years ago I’m trying to spread around and even out. The mulch is now soil and I plan to eventually plant grass and create some new plant beds .. it’s across 1!acre or so and between trees as well. Remove brush ext with the grappler as well.. just wondering if I need something to be more efficient or better skills..lol. I’ll see if I can make a drag

I see you like using the heavy hitch on the back of your three point The only problem I see is that you have your ballast weight raised much too high you need to have that ballast as low as possible to keep your center of gravity as low as possible your rear ballast weight should be just high enough that it does not come in contact with the ground behind you,

I see with what you are trying to do by picking up stacked logs a rock bucket with its longer tines and with duel grapples would work much better than what you have with the shorter tines. They do make them without the large sides that would not be good for picking up brush and long logs. The long tines could slide underneath then once you’ve gotten under clamp down and Walla probably more than it can pick up.
