This video is such a beautiful time capsule. I had genuinely assumed the laugh-o-tron was a prop that Paul had put together, it's big green dial eyes and creepy plug mouth felt way too much to have an actual purpose. The function generator creates different current wave functions, so instead of the standard Alternating current coming out of the wall you can convert it into many other frequencies and amplitudes. There is very little use for it except testing circuitry.

Function Generator! Plug it into the wall and it'll generate electronic wavefunctions. Yaknow, Square Waves, Sine Waves, Triangle waves. They're used for testing electronic devices, such as logic gates and flip-flops.

I assume you figured out what the function generator does, but in case you haven't: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_generator It generates sine and square waves and stuff. Useful for testing electronics, sometimes.
