it isn't a "weird" launcher it is the CSRL, Common Strategic Rotary Launcher. very elegant way to load and launch missiles from the bomb bay of the BUFF

The B-52 is the #2 on my all-time favorite list of Airplanes with the Boeing 747-200/400/800 at the #1 spot. Although, I and my late wife saw 2 F-117s go from Nellis Airforce base here in Las Vegas to behind the mountain range literally in a blink of an eye. At that time the F-117 was a new airplane we read about but we never saw one until that evening. To say we were blown away by the incredible speed is an understatement.

I was in SAC in the 1970s, we had the “D” models. The alert crews drove dodge power wagons typically with Amber lights and sirens and all of the base intersections had revolving amber lights for stopping all traffic except for the “Alert crews” responding back to the Alert area for immediate launch of the “ Alert Ds” with nucs onboard!! There would be hell to pay if you were caught impeding an “Alert vehicle” even during base exercises! When I left SAC and was stationed at Eielson AFB, AK., we had RC135 “Cobra Balls” TDY, I was on base but off duty when “663” crashed short of the runway at Shemya, Alaska in March 1981, I seem recall we lost 6 cabin crew members!!
