Wondering which one is cheaper for the farmers the old way or the new way?
@AerialAg5 жыл бұрын
Definitely wholestalk.. I've been told they burn far less fuel and have to perform much less maintenance with the older equipment.

I would agree the older method. My dad was a loader on Allendale plantation in louisiana. We also had 2 semi trucks, to transport the sugarcane to the mill. Those were great times growing up!

I notice a lot of the 'cane' tractors have a very strong bar at the front, quite often with an equally sturdy pole sticking up from the bar - can someone tell me what is the purpose of this. I'm in the UK and no-one grows sugar cane to my knowledge - sugar beet yes but not cane. and I have never seen these mounted on any of our tractors. Enjoyed the video.

I think it’s for pushing other tractors and some times harvesters in sloppy muddy conditions in Louisiana which happens a lot!
@AerialAg6 жыл бұрын
Christopher Lovelock Yep, the other reply was exactly right. When we get a lot of rain it can get very muddy and the tractors help push others with full wagons out of the field.

Thanks to you both for your replies. The odd thing is you never see this sort of 'attachment' on tractors that work in other Countries crops that frequently have muddy conditions, maize being one that springs to mind. I have seen many 'Krone' cutting machines either being pulled out or doing some extra pulling, - with these chaps it almost seems to be a standard fitment.

Christopher Lovelock I'm not sure if the weight would have anything to do with it or not, but sugarcane is pretty heavy. Every grab he puts in is about a ton of cane. Or maybe it because the cane is planted in elevated rows, so the tractors can only go in a straight line for the most part. But yes, I can't recall seeing very many tractors working the cane fields that do not have that push bar.
@christopherlovelock91046 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Yes it seems to a 'fitment' unique to the 'cane boys', why I don't know as plenty of other farmers could do with something like this. Is it a buy of the shelf item as they all seem to be the same size, I can see the point of the 'cross-bar' piece, - just like an ordinary 'push bar' but what is the point of the pole on most of them that is equally as strong, that sticks up on one side only about 2', and always the nearside.
