Like those recently refurbished 3cs and soon the 2cs will be history. In August 2021, mostly unmodernized 2cs were roaming around, with not a lot of modernized 3cs around. More rebuilds were ready to come home such as 1025, 1051, 1057, 1060, 1064, 1065, 1066 and 1074. Those BRAND NEW F40’S on MBTA are looking sharp with that new paint scheme, the big “T” logo on the sides and those extremely bright white led head lights. Glad to see the T decided to rebuild their fleet of F40s instead of replacing them like many other railroads across the U.S. is doing right now with modern, low-emission and fuel-efficient locomotives, for example, the Siemens Charger, built in Sacramento, California. Multiple U.S. commuter railroads either have new units in service right now or currently on order waiting for delivery to begin. Amtrak retired their fleet in the early 2000s in favor of the Genesis series units. But MBTA is keeping the F40 club rolling. 😊 #LongLiveF40s. Keep on going strong EMD and F40PH, every rail fan including myself loves you.

August 14, 2021: More F40s were to be sent to mpi including 1029, 1033, 1056, 1062, 1067, 1069, 1070, 1073 and 1075, while 1027, 1029, 1030, 1034, 1036, 1053, 1055, 1059, 1071 and 1072 were the remaining non-rebuilds roaming around. October 27, 2021: 1070 is the next F40 to be sent to mpi. November 17, 2021: 1070 is awaiting shipment by CSX in middleboro tonight. February 8, 2024: 1070 is now in testing painted in black and rumors said it will be given regular MBTA paint just before shipment back to Boston. August 20, 2024: 1070 now in testing. October 25, 2024: 1070 back in service.
