How wonderful to see something being repaired and not thrown away. I’ve lost count of how many pairs I have now. My wife says I haven’t got enough years left to wear them all out! I love cleaning mine....it’s very therapeutic and so rewarding. Would love to visit the factory one day when COVID has gone...if I’m still here! Recent purchases include Sedbergh boots and 256 loafers. The latter are made in India but beautifully built.

I was lucky enough to visit the factory and have a tour guided by Andrew Loake himself. He's a true gent and has worked as a skilled craftsman on the factory floor himself before working his way up to MD. It's amazing to see the skill, dedication and pride all under one roof producing, what I believe to be, the best value and quality shoes in Northamptonshire. I have 16 pairs in my collection now and it's still got room to grow!

I paid £220 for pair of brogues in Tan stunning, and seeing how there made is just brilliant. I was talking to a guy the other week and I commented on his loakes boots, he said 12 years old and they still looked new. Fantastic quality. My old leather soled 1880 chestnut brogues lasted for so many years, I added to the range. They are quite fabulous for playing an organ, with the soles sliding effortlessly over the pedals. I added a new pair of Design Loake brogues with dainite soles last year-and they are quite good. Nevertheless I missed the solid contact with terra firma so bought another pair leather soled brogues-black this time-and rejoice at the quality. Thank you Loake in England.

What an amazing video. As a previous commenter suggests, how refreshing it is to see that this level of quality and care still exists. As of the date I found this video, there were 15 negative clicks; for the life of me, I cannot imagine how anyone, let alone 15 people, could not like what you see here. One thing that always puzzles me - with such high quality shoes, why does a manufacturer like this not team up with a shoe-tree maker to make LASTED SHOE TREES??? I mean, you get this quality shoe, then have to go buy an off-the-shelf shoe tree. I own several pairs of quality boots & shoes, and I know that I would pay more for an exact fit shoe tree. LaokeShoemakers - if you're listening - please consider this. Thank you for a quality video.

LuvmyGSD the problem is that Loake is ignoring abiut 75% of the shoe in this "refurbishment" - the upper and the interior. This "refurbishment" is basically expensive and high-quality resoling.
@Windowman6662 жыл бұрын
LuvmyGSD the people who gave negative clicks very obviously don’t understand what craftsmanship and quality are ( their loss)
@MaxxSeemov2 жыл бұрын
They destroy the welt of the shoes (1:45) during "refurbishments" and puts in a new one. They are intentionally damaging the uppers to limit the number of times you can resole your shoes. You then go buy a new one after 3 or 4 resoles. I'd rather go to my local skilled cobbler who handstitches new sole to the welt of my shoes.

@@davidallen4712 Sadly that’s a loose expression. Even the 1880 are part Indian and assembled in England. The uppers, are cut, sewn and shaped in India. Then shipped over to England where they are married to a sole unit. The heel is part regurgitated leather composite. I own 4 pairs of Loakes but won’t buy any more. Sanders, Trickers or Cheaney now. I sent my 1880 Brogues back to loake for resoling (Danite sole) and general repair etc was quite expensive but worth it to go back to the actual people who made it in the first place ... however the shoes came back perfectly resoled but the uppers were in as bad a state I when I sent them ..like the leather was very patchy dry looking the leather surface was dry at creases etc and showed distinct dry lines . Now yes I regualrly polished them and cleaned them I even used leather cream to feed the leather ( many times ) in the hope it would solve the issue ..but nothing helped they would polish up ok but within less than a day of wearing them the dryness at the creases was back and the shoe looked very poor , I was disappointed that Loake to not address this with their knowledge or even bother to enclose a leaflet or "report " to advise me about the issue or advise me that the uppers were beyond repair (i.e able to take a polish or feed and NOT appear dry at the creases etc ) in which case I would have binned them and bought new . So I don't believe they are carefully examined and brought back to the original standard at all (wear and tear allowing of course ) . I got the feeling they just put on new soles took my money and did not think to advise on the sorry state of the uppers appearance /condition with a view to the best outcome for ME the customer versus them taking my money for a resole .When I send them back to the factory for an expensive rework I want them to come back to me as close to new/ reconditioned as wear and tear allowing of course .Very disappointed with Loake in that respect .

Pretty sure that's the Burford. I have a pair and they are wonderful once broken in. It's made on the same last as the Chester and is very similar in design. It has a broader, more chiseled and elongated toe compared to the more traditional rounded toe of most country brogue boots. Some people would call it a 'town boot'. They're fine for dog walking but I probably wouldn't go wading through a field in them. I'm also a big fan of the Dainite rubber soled version which, in my opinion, makes a lot more sense than a leather sole for a boot. For me, leather soles are for the office or more delicate shoes like suede loafers.

I recently bought a pair of black Aldwych and mahogany Strand...they've been brilliant so far! Regarding your repairs policy; "...nor can we repair shoes that have previously been repaired by a third party." Does that include a third party heel replacement? The soles seem like they will last a long time and I'm sure the rubber part of the heel will wear out long before the sole. Does this mean you won't accept a shoe which has received a third party heel replacement?
@EOTA5648 жыл бұрын
That's a fair point in general but in the case of a pair of goodyear welted shoes, I wouldn't have thought that any prior repairs to the heel would affect the replacement of the entire sole?

I am considering going for a pair of Loake boots. I have noticed they are very similar in appearance and even colour to Tricker’s boots. However, the latter are considerably more expensive. I’m assuming there must be a difference in quality, or is there? It would be good to get an insight from somebody who has owned both. Thanks. (Knowing me, I’ll probably just end up buying both and being the judge myself.)

Don't buy " design Loakes " made in India , they look good but as far as quality goes nowhere near as good as the English shoes.
@thefalsenumber97396 жыл бұрын
More and more traditional shoemakers are selling specially designed, cheaper lines that are made offshore - in Loake’s case, India. I have two pairs of Loake loafers - one made in Northampton and one from India. The latter is OK but it’s true there’s no mistaking the difference in quality. Just make sure you ask the question if you’re buying in store or if buying online, most of the decent cobblers state specifically if a particular pair of shoes are UK made. I am currently waiting on a pair of the Royal wingtips. Loake may not be considered as good as Church’s (now owned by Prada, I believe) or Cheany (owned by Church’s) but I like them a lot - the Brighton loafers fit my feet perfectly and the UK-made shoes are good value.

People buy goodyear welted shoes so they can have them resoled over and over. Removing a perfectly good and usable welt and machine stitching a new one damages the upper and reduces the integrity of the shoe. English shoe manufacturers like Loake, Barker, Crockett, Cheaney etc does this so you can only resole your shoe 2 or 3 times before you are forced to buy a new one. Don't fall for this marketing strategy. Bring your shoes to a good cobbler who can handstitch a new sole to your welt and upper and you will have a pair that will last essentially a lifetime.

I have 3 pairs of Loake. They are impressive looking and quality made shoes. The main issue blocking me from wearing them more often - they are not really comfortable shoes compared to cheap common pair of sneakers. The reason for that is their insole is basicly just hard flat piece of leather with a bit of glue and cork. They should make insole more anatomic/softer - feet is not flat, so hard flat insole is not comfortable to walk in.... I understand they are making them the same way as they did 100 years ago, but I rather enjoy modern car, than 100 years old vehicle...
