Local AI to run your shop? This is insane.

I have used it as a starting point for writing code in languages that I am not familiar with but I struggle to find a real application for it in the shop. I think we are at a point where the machinery needs to catch up to the computing. Lets redefine conversational machining.

The main thing ive also used it for is code. I have already automated so much when it comes to the machines that what id like "help" with is the keeping track,sorting,sending emails, documents, prepp work that is repetetive (zapier addon already out). Making sure that I dont forget stuff, well... i guess moving all the stuff I keep in my head to an AI assitant, maybe thats the most enticing. The AI would know if the parts required paint or whatever and if it didnt see an update regarding that it could make sure it isnt forgotten, and added to the invoice. AI is moving so fast that the Ideas are going to lag behind, imagine what it could do in a year . Perphaps the vmc machines controller (or just a nearby pc) can figure out a basic program by comparing the stock and 3dmodel. I bet that could already be done today. Teaching it on 10s of thousands of successful/unsuccessful programs. It would also keep learning. I have done some small initial tests where commands generated by an ai are put into a textfile in my dropbox folder, then power automate on the kimla reads that (and deletes it) and runs a "flow" based on that. Powerautomate can then import vectors,click any button,read the screen and do pretty much anything I can sitting in front of it. Except see the physical table. So its already possible to recieve an order,have an ordernumber generated,reply/thank the customer, files sorted,run though my automation for dxf/bending program,robot for loading sheet,kimla to nest,autogenerate gcode,probe/verify and run. And sure thats cool, but perhaps the value of that isnt as great at it sounds. Yet. But if it could assist along the way then great. Would also be neat if I could train it on step files of sheetmetal components so that it could tell the user(my customer) instantly if its manufacturable with my tools in the press brake. Its all moving too fast to really build anything solid right now. Hard to say where its all going to end up but the next couple years are going to be crazy and im going to try to keep up.

@@randomrouting you really have given this lots of thought. I went down the rabit hole tonight wondering if I could have pre adapted tool paths to impliment into programs and modified by AI

On what do you plan to implement it? Do you have any cool ideas for implementing it in manufacturing?

My mind is kinda racing. Every idea ivve had in the last few months is obsolete just a few weeks later. Maybe not obsolete but not worth persuing with the technology of that day, there is a new and better way to do it every few weeks. I can already tell that if i took the time to train it, it could do so much. Say it monitored my inbox for new emails and understood what was orders and the overall sentiment of it. If its a rush order for example. It could reply with a generated ordernumber. It could place/sort the attached files, it could run my other automation on the step files to program the router/pressbrake, heck it could plan my next day. Say I would come in the morning and ask whats on the agenda and it would tell me to start with the rush order and then sort the orders depending on sheet thickness. I guess it could write emails to the supplier for surface treatment/powdercoat and place them in my draft folder for me to review.(If it sees that there are parts in the order that will require the treatment) It could keep track. The iso certification demands alot of documentation and later statistics. This thing would make short work of that. It could compare orders and invoices to make sure i dont forget to bill every order. The list goes on. Most of these things are somewhat doable without AI but not realistic for me to do. This AI thing makes everything so accessable. I guess i could make another phone app to give to my customers so they use their voice and ask about an order, the AI would check and reply. In text or voice (using openai's whisper) Not sure what ill do honestly. Some things will end up as gimmiks, some will be hard to live without once in place. As it now is with the RPA i got going. And for anyone reading this, yes chatgpt is better, much better, but this is running locally! If you have any other ideas im all ears! EDIT: It cant just do any of these things out of the box, it would need a way to interact with other parts of the system, but thats the thing. Building those connectors/things is something id use another AI for.
