The next webinar in our Local Leadership Academy series dived into the world of how data and technology is and could be used in #disasterriskreduction.
Timely and reliable data can play a significant role in preventing, preparing for and responding to #disaster.
Innovative technology helps to assess #risk, issue #earlywarnings, communicate and implement disaster response and #resilience building efforts.
Despite this, the mid-term review of the #SendaiFramework revealed that global access to disaster data and applicable risk knowledge, including multi-hazard early warning systems, remains inadequate. Gaps remain in data collection and analyses at the subnational and national levels, with very few countries collecting disaggregated data and there is a need to strengthen data ecosystems.
Similarly, innovative technological solutions for #DRR are being trialled far too conservatively and with a very limited scope, primarily focusing on early warning systems.
This webinar explored the emerging role that data and technology will play in enhancing disaster risk reduction. Our expert panel discussed:
🟠 The growing importance of data and technology for disaster risk reduction;
🟠 How data and technology can be used in practical ways in our on-going efforts for disaster risk reduction; and,
🟠 The emerging challenges and barriers limiting the adoption and utilisation of data and technology in disaster risk reduction efforts
