What nonsense. I rode in a Waymo this weekend. What a serene experience. It only adds to my feel that we should automate all vehicles. Everything driving like Waymo: at speed limit or below; spaced evenly. Not running lights or stop signs but making a full stop. Ego subtracted. City life would be divine This report is bunk. It was nothing unusual as a ride without a driver. The state senator is blind. We don’t want local control with every pay to play local government working to protect their friends The question is, without employees, why is it so expensive?

@@Gryphonisle because they are the only robotaxi service right now and their only competition has to pay human drivers so they can keep their prices close to Uber and Lyft. Once other robotaxi services are established prices will come down.

It was always their plan to use robo taxis. No one is stopping you from using a human taxi but when the price of a robo taxi becomes half the price of a human driven car, things will change.

@@stevelouie5928 and? As I said, I WAS trying to support cabbies, since Uber began. Uber is not a Robo taxi. SF dropped the ball in regulating ride share as a software company and not a transport company; in the same way they dropped the ball in allowing tech companies to offer extensive in house perks that made them bad neighbors as employees who stayed in aren’t employees going out to water all the budding new enterprises, hence the failed renaissance of Mid-Market Still, not only is it stupid to automate only one segment of the roadway, it’s short sighted. Fully automating the city, then the freeways, then the burbs would transform a chaotic vanity and ego driven activity into a calm and orderly experience; smoother traffic flows; a near cessation of collisions, and a much safer and more pleasant urban environment
