Ali Hussainy of Local Knowledge Fishing Show, demonstrates how to set up a kite/balloon for a dead flying fish bait or a fake flying fish lure to land the crown jewel of Southern California waters, the Bluefin Tuna.
The kite setup is a Southern California staple that anglers have used for over 100 years. Enabling anglers to be able to get close enough to present a bait to the Bluefin Tuna without spooking them.
Ali gives a full breakdown of his recommended setup for offshore kite fishing including rods, reels, kites, balloons and line for every size class of Bluefin Tuna.

Thanks for the video, best kite rigging tutorial I've found. Spending the offseason getting geared up for when we have another showing of BFT in norcal next year!

Great Video! You mentioned 130# braid to a wind on. What pound test fluorocarbon and how long of a wind on are you using for the Yummee and Frozen Flyer?

Thanks for the duct tape tip as I am struggling with harness and balloon size. How did you get the aftco swivels thru the reel pawl?

Hi there! Great tutorial ! I am new to kite fishing and you tell us to use 75 yards for release clips spacing. Yet all others tutorial says 75 feet... which one should I use? Thank you for your help.

Where did you get the battery for your electric reel. That has to be one of the most compact ones I have seen. Haven’t seen anyone do a video on the backpack rig flyer if you have any input on that.

What did you guys do for the yeti gobox handle? Been thinking about using one for a tacklebox but didn’t like that there wasn’t a handle.

I've done this a lot for yellowfins on the East Coast off North Carolina. We would run the line from the rod through a split ring or other similar ring and then clip the ring to the arm of the release clip. I noticed you didn't do that. Florida guys use rings as I described when they fish live baits off kites. I didn't know if maybe you've ever had any trouble with the line binding up in the clip, being that the line direction and release clip position are parallel?

Would like to know who the 6 people are that thumbs downed this video, probably people that don’t want others to show people how to fish or are just against fishing in general most likely 🙄? guarantee even with this tutorial if you go to fly a kite for your first few times at least, there’s still going to be a lot of learning to do on your own in order to fish effectively. Certainly helps though. 👍 guys.
