umm why is x curly r cos 0? shouldnt it be r sin 0?

Im assuming that its a hybrid of polar and cartesian coordinates, so the x curly would correspond to the distance from the origin on the x axis, and when you solve the right triangle, the hypotenuse would be R, so Rcos(theta) would be the component lying on that axis.
