Congrats on paying off your house note. Your new utility locator is a handy tool. I wish I knew how many miles I’ve walked using one working for 30 years at a telephone company. I highly recommend you complete your locating kit with a $30 marker paint wand. It lets you walk upright with your locator receiver in one hand and your marker paint wand in the other hand spraying paint without stooping or breaking stride.

It’s a great feeling when you send that last check in! I did it in 18 years and paid mine off right after this past Christmas! I’m on a well that I had drilled in 2005 and about to call to get a new one. I’m driving into work this morning and saw a rig, not as big as y’all’s, from behind I could tell it was a water well rig… from watching your videos over the past three weeks. Thanks for all your effort in making content! I’m in the tv news biz in NW Louisiana so yeah, I know how hard it is but to add drilling at the same time??? Wheeew!

I never have had a mortgage as well always just bought a cheap old house and fixed it up as I lived in it and then sold it and started over with with another old house...to many folks have to have the brand new home and living from paycheck to paycheck...not me

KZbin basically averages out to another paycheck every week. Once you factor in taxes by the end of the year.

It is like my advanced charger. It uses some kind of circuit for auto but lets you define a value yourself. If the cable is thin you might need more power or vise versa. I'd leave it auto.

I’m an electrical engineer and master electrician, and wanted to respond to your question. The voltage you are tracking isn’t really considered high voltage, but it’s really low-voltage. You are being served with 120/240 V like most homes in the United States and Canada. So this device might be used primarily with medium voltage powerlines. Medium voltage is typically in the 4000 to 12,000 V range. Anyway, I’m only partially through this and I hope it works well for you.

NEC code is like 6" minimum for rigid conduit, 18" for non-metallic conduit and 24" for direct burial wire. those are only if it's not under a driveway/pavement. under driveway/pavement is 24" minimum. they probably ran conduit the whole way, so as long as it's deeper than 18" (local/states codes may have other requirements). adding to the grade later on doesn't pass inspection, it needs to be proper depth at time of trenching/installation and checked before burial. there's an NEC minimum of two 8' ground rods spaced minimum of 6' apart(greater is OK) total depth can vary from 8' to far deeper(soil/conductivity). it's also common to have "ufer ground" (connection bonded to the rebar within the concrete footer), sometimes they'll do buried mesh(location/soil) that looks like a nice locator setup and the induction clamp is great, so you don't have to directly connect or have utility unhook to trace. the signal current in "milliamps" which is how strong the RF signal it's transmitting out. really long/deep runs may require higher signal strength towards the far end, where up closer it may have to be turned down for accuracy. wire gauge and connection type can make a difference also. too long of a rambling comment. 🧐

We did this 12 years ago and are sitting on a great nest egg and bought our retirement home(currently rented) in Jacksonville, NC for when we retire in 2 years.
