Have spent a lot of time in this country,first went in there in about 1966 when you needed a tractor the track was so rough.You actually missed a nice drive from Amberley to Waitohi Gorge via Waipara gorge,shingle road,easy drive but scenic,cheers.

Good to hear your loving the content! After the first lake you pass over private land, although the road is public. Once at the final camp site there is another locked gate that goes further but that is private property. There is toilets at the first DoC site and i think there could be at the further lake. Its a nice weekend get away
