Great project. My son and I are in the process of building a machine. Perfect project as he like. Arduinos and tennis. I like your design, thanks for posting. We were able to mount the bottom motor but have had issues on the top (adjustable) motor. It seems our motors have 4 mounting screws and a extending 1 3/8 hole over the shaft. This hole seems to present an issue with the top motor and the slots for adjusting. Any advice? Thanks again

The hard part is making a larger amount of balls deliver without jamming. Almost done with mine. How is yours if you sit 50 balls in?

The red brackets are just fabricated out of flat mild steel 3mm thick x 80mm width. Just holes drilled to reduce weight. you could use aluminium. Thanks for the complement

Yes a servo or stepper motor would be a good option, I used a standard motor rotating a threaded rod and machined a disc with two slots so that each time the shaft rotates 1 rotation, two pulses are counted. I made an array of twenty six target positions, each position is a number between 0 and 150. The pulses are compared to the target so the machine rotates to any position stored in the array. Another option would be to put an encoder on the end of the shaft and use that for positioning or have a motor with built in encoder.

Hi, I have a lathe so machined two brass shafts, the wheel shaft diameter is 16mm so the shaft is a snug fit in the wheel centre and the shaft is centre drilled to suit the motor shaft diameter. it is important that these are made accurately otherwise you will have vibration.

Hi, Distance between wheels are around 40 mm, set by trial and error. Motors are from amazon, DC Motor-24V 150W 5500 rpm High Speed Brush DC Motor can run CW/CCW

What made you decide to increase the size of the motors and the wheels?

To increase the throwing power, so increasing the diameter increases the speed providing the motors can take the additional current to drive the larger wheels. You can also lower the rpm with the increased diameter. ball speed is surprisingly fast

With a 400 W am I able to accelerate and decelerate this wheel with 2 seconds. Because I'm thinking about toggle shots between topspin and backspin in a 2 second interval

Vibration will occur, the wheels and shafts do need to be balaced and machined true.

I'm finding that. Most modern things add stuff thus increasing the chance of something going wrong. Working on a basic unit now. Motors wires wheels battery bucket done.
