This is a good digital interpretation of the board game. It was a great way to learn the rules. There are a few quirks, though. I still haven't figured out how to use the leader's multi hex activation and the AI is pretty dumb sometimes. Still... I have sunk many enjoyable hours into this. :)
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
For the multi-hex activation, you've seen the icon above the unit box when the leader can activate other units? I think it's a hex with a downward pointing arrow. Clicking that will allow you to activate adjacent units, then still retain the ability to activate the leader after that.

I own everything they have released so far, and it is fantastic. This has really freed up board gaming time for other tabletop titles. But, I have an unfortunate aside, though. The digital version of the sister game Nations at War has really been floundering to the point that I would not recommend anyone purchasing it if they were choosing between the two.

There were a few hexes with red 'center of hex' dots. I could not come up with a reason they should be red--do you know? (3 buildings in a triangle?) In reading some of the hex descriptions, it seems that maybe a tank can run into a building to rubble it? Though it may mess itself up? That's kinda cool if I read that right!
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Yes, the red dot in the middle of a building means that it's a Heavy Construction building (+4 Terrain Modifier). If a building doesn't have that, it's a Light Construction building (+3 modifier I think). Also, HC buildings that span 3 or more hexes are considered two-story buildings, which adds another level to them. I think there is a rubble mechanic for vehicles that can mess up the unit, yes. I recall skimming over that in the rules, but I'm not up to speed yet on vehicles. Still learning that part. :)

This is an interesting system and the alternating activations are a godsend, compared to the trafitional IGOUGO! For now I am sticking to learning Panzer/MBT, but in the future... I will most likely buy some of the WW2 digital modules, to slowly learn this as well.

You are my go to host when it comes to learning about new war games. You have passion! Question about this game. Do you leave all the information boxes open on purpose to allow people to view the content or are they that way by default?. Can you control which ones to open and close at any given time? It seems to obscure a lot of the nicely rendered map area.
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Brian, I'm glad you're enjoying the content. The window situation is a bit complex, but I think I can do some rearranging to have more of the map visible. There is a way to move them to my second monitor, but I kind of need that for the recording software. But you bring up a good point, I'll take a look. :) Thanks.

Seems like a good game. I will check it out. I would kill the music but leave the sounds effects for any future videos. The music was more than distracting.
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, Stephen! A couple of things on the music. - The data on my videos with music versus without music shows that people prefer background music. Having said that... - The music on this video is too loud for a background track. This was the first attempt at this, so I'm going to adjust the background music relative to the sound effects so that it's less pronounced. It's a work in progress. :)
@StephenWestrip
@StephenWestrip Жыл бұрын
@@ZillaBlitz Is that music only or music and sound effects? This game has plenty of decent sound effects plus the music is the same short piece (about 20-30 seconds) on a loop.
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
I can separate the level of the music and the sound effects when recording, but I only get two tracks as output, one for my voice and one for everything from the game together. But I confess I'm one of those people who don't notice the sound track. I didn't think it was the same short loop over and over. If it's that short and repetitive, yeah, turning it off might be best. I might even look at dropping in my own sound track with longer loops. Thanks.

I enjoyed this, do you think this system is something that non wargamers could pick up quickly?
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Yes, to a degree? I think the tutorials are good for getting the basics down. A lot of stuff you don't need to know how to do because the game figures out the numbers for you. Getting a sense for some of the more complex systems might take some time. The Core System is often available very inexpensively during Steam sales. I'd recommend trying that and one of the DLCs to see how you like it. You could probably do that for under $10US during a sale.

I agree, with Zilla. But for a slightly different reason and with a qualifier. I've been watching his recent playthroughs of the system using the board game. Which are great. I'm an experienced wargamer. Been doing it 60 years. But while I have a general sense of these rules, I don't really know them. And this is my first exposure to the computer version. The reason I think this is an excellent way to enter the hobby is that you can ignore the rules and play using real world knowledge. So the qualifier is related to knowing some military history. But even if you don't, it's a great way to learn both. For example. High buildings are great places to put machine guns. Don't put your sniper with other units. Place units in places with protection and good fields of fire. Don't run into the street trying to be a hero, especially on defense 😉 If you're on the defense, wait until they come to you, then pin them down. I thought Zilla (I think he might be another Mike) did a great job of illustrating that. He knows the system way better than I do - I understood the point, though not the mechanism of each die roll. But I didn't have to, because the computer gave you targets and probabilities, and then results. And I understood his logic. Of course, there was no melee, because he defended so well. Finally, I'm a good wargamer. And one problem I find with those who aren't is that the mechanics distracts them from the strategy and tactics. They are so busy doing the first, they ignore the logic of the latter. Of doing things that make no sense. And while good gamers can beat you because they understand the odds or rules better, and yes we can be rules lawyers, in my experience it's not enough. This gives you a way to learn the rules and tactics through trial and error in a relatively short and painless way. Lock 'n Load is currently having a sale. I added the new charts to an order from a different vendor and already have the starter kit as well as the Vietnam and WWII Pacific games. I decided not to pull the trigger on two other games and buy the computer versions. The shipping is way cheaper. Fantastic video. Great system. Great entry point. Thanks.
