Finally Fishing

Күн бұрын

Exploring a new fishing spot for me just north of Winnipeg Manitoba. Follow along to Lockport on the Red River to see what we can manage to catch out there. Things don't always go according to plan, but rest assured that we got on some new species.
Please Note: That's not a Black Drum as mentioned in the video, these are Freshwater drum.

Please do note: the Drum caught in this video is a Freshwater Drum, not a Black Drum as stated in the video.

Hey Vernon it looks like you made your move. I’m glad you’re back, and I hope that you’re not somewhere too far away. Someday I would like to get back together with you and your wife and go fission again. I can’t wait for two days to get it over and find out where the heck you are.

Too bad you didn’t hook a Goldeye. Smoked Goldeye tastes awesome. We even served it to Queen Elizabeth when she visited Winnipeg back in the 70’s

Vernon glad to see you made it it took me about 10 minutes though to figure out what that green stuff was in the background. Then my friend told me so those are trees. Not like Las Vegas and Arizona. Anyway I think you’re really gonna enjoy it up there lots of Fishing and different species of fish. Good luck to you and your wife maybe someday will get back together go again.

Thanks Ralph, took me a while to get use to having trees on the horizon again. And even worse, they are turning yellow. Never seen that on Mead.

Fished almost that spot a bunch of yrs ago. Caught a mess of goldeye. Didnt have a smoker. Tried baking. Frying BBQ. Could get ride of the wet texture.. Planted them under the tomato plants.. got a fantantic tomato crop. Huge tomatoes.. only problem was they tasted like goldeye😂

Nice fishy tomatoes... I have heard that they are tasty when smoked. Seems like a lot of trouble for small fish, but I might just do that catch and cook someday.

Great video. Lockport pro tip: Walleye have the white tip on the tail. Sauger don’t, and sauger have spots on the dorsal and a more splotchy design on the sides. They don’t get as large as the walleye. For goldeye used a slip float and a small hook with a piece of worn, 18” below the surface. Good luck!
@FinallyFishing

Thanks for the tips! And just to mess with it all saugeye...

When I am fishing goldeye on the Winnipeg River, there are times I use 6'-10' of line below my slip bobber. Have also caught them very shallow as well

You need to move further away from the locks when all the gates are closed. The big ones are laying around the corner by the floodway

@@FinallyFishing The worst part was I had to reel it in slow because of how the line wrapped when it fell. If I reeled fast its head would drag under water. Had to bob him back to shore lol.

The difference between sauger and walleye is sauger have black spots on the tail and the top fins. Walleye have a green tail with a white mark on the bottom of it

wrong walleye are on the bottom. they are a nocturnal fish.
@FinallyFishing
@FinallyFishing 3 ай бұрын
Fish sleep for a few minutes, so technically they are both nocturnal and active in the day. Predator's are more active in low light conditions as it improves the odds. And yes, walleye are on the bottom, but they are looking upwards. Carp and drum look down and feed on the bottom.
