Hi Evie. I love your videos and this one inspires me because you talk about the characteristics of different sheep breeds. I live in the Cotswolds (aren’t I lucky) and my very first fleece, gifted to me by a local shepherd, was a Cotswold. It makes a beautiful, soft creamy yarn and I have just knit my first garment - a hat - from my hand-carded, hand spun Cotswold fleece. This video of yours gives me plenty of inspiration for more projects as I get more confident. Thank you!

Unicorn is my usual go-to. Sometimes vinegar helps too. I would also check that your water is hot enough and you are using enough of it. Maybe you can also try trying them outside in the sun?
@carolynadams22643 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this video, I love the way you spin the locks unto themselves. I only was aware of core spinning them. I do have a question, you mention you spin counter-clockwise. I don't understand what difference that makes, either direction you get the twist, right? I think I'm missing something about this.
@JillianEve3 жыл бұрын
I know that when I'm knitting in the round, my yarn can untwist if it is spun clockwise so if I know I'll be using a single without plying, I spin counterclockwise. For a lot of yarn, especially high twist yarns, it might not matter as much. 💖🧶😊

Do you have any tips for spinning locks with a drop spindle?
@JillianEve3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I like to use a larger and wider whorl so my spindle spins a bit slower. That helps me keep track of all the locks in my hand. Then I do pretty much the same as I do with the wheel. I let the twist grab each lock, and draft them out into the yarn. 🧶💜🌷🐑
@SmallFossy3 жыл бұрын
@@JillianEve thank you so much for the advice! I have a lovely brown/gold fleece and was thinking this might be a good way to keep the colours more distinct, I will give it a try.

The yarn is super cute! Is it strong enough to make a pompom? I think the hat would be complete with a matching lockful pompom! Loved the mini debate: Fingerless mittens?
