One thing that's imperative is potable water...I've installed rain barrels on all my home's down spouts. Always practice good and reliable purification steps too.

You mind giving a quick breakdown of how yours are setup? I was thinking I’d have rainbarrels setup to catch the water and then have it gravity fed to a 2 barrel setup where the barrels are stacked to make what is essentially a giant Berkey filter, which would then be safe to store and use. Mainly for emergency situations but I could use it in the raised bed gardens too.

@@thegrayjedi5202 Damn close. I have two rain barrels directly under two down-spouts where I'd cut 2.5' from each...I place a rain barrel under each down-spout. With cinder blocks under each barrel for elevation, I have a (~120') hose running from each barrel down into a cistern; each of the barrels have a spigot at the bottom to attach any length of hose one needs. And don't forget to double up on the screening on your barrels, there's all sorts of crap and bugs floating down those downspouts. Hope this helps...

We have a ton of freeze dried food, one bad thing about FD foods is you have to plan on extra water to rehydrate them, you can eat the still dried but your body will need extra water due to eating it that way. So stock up as much water as possible if you have alot of FD foods.

@@eagleclaw6 if you have a way to boil water like a wood stove or fire place. You dont even need purified water. Just water straight from the tap stored in 2lt pop bottles works. Even if they been sitting for years.

GOOD LOCAL INTEL is crucial. You need to have as much an early heads up on local happenings or situations that develop so you can either plan to bug in or bug out. Bugging in is going to be way safer most of the time but if you have marauders start going through neighborhoods or LEO going door to door you might need to get out for a bit. It all depends but having good awareness is important.

And the bottom of your container will burn black if you don't heat it slowly as the snow hollows out bellow, but looks full up top. 👍

@@flyingled3176 6 decades ago our mom would scrape off the black soot on top of deep snow that fell in our back yard. She’d make some kind of creamy flavored ice from the pure white looking fallen snow. Delish. Loved it. We didn’t get sick. Can’t do that now. Would end up in the ER or worse. LOL

That's the way you do it . Document what you use . 👍 The out going regime allowed inflation to eat away at my surplus cash . Now it's slower to replace or build inventory . Something I have always been behind the 8 Ball on is going with the most independent systems . Example : wood heat is the most independent source , above propane or oil or kerosene . If you are young and starting from scratch , go the most independent way . Gold , silver, cash in that order. Now what I say next many may not like , but it is base . Stay out of stocks and things like Bit Coin . You have NO control over , you are completely at their mercy. Now if they call you up and say : Johnny , Susie , we are going drop "XYZ" , then you are in the click , but if that call never comes ... you're not one of them !
