Other than a fork, would you also not need to replace your hub or wheel to convert the front? I'm looking at the Poseidon X and the State 4130. The X is cheaper and I like it as a bikepacking bike that can also be an intro to cross racing but I wonder if the cost savings over the State 4130 would be eaten up with bringing it up to the same through axels \ that the State comes stock with.
@LockedinCycling3 жыл бұрын
I’d watch my review for both bikes, for cx the x is probably better but for bike packing the state is more relaxed endurance geo

What's the benefit of "thru axle" over " quick release"?
@LockedinCycling Жыл бұрын
You’ll be able to find videos that explain it a little more in detail, but in short, it’s a more modern standard nowadays, which means it’s easier to find compatible wheels, especially if you’re looking to upgrade as well as it does expand the options for your rear hub for the more modern 11 and 12 Speed Dr. trains, and it is more secure and stiffer so it has less flex than a quick release

Thread pitch is 1.5. a 171mm axel is too long. I don't have it yet but I believe it's a 12 x 163mm with a 1.5 pitch should be the one. @Locked in can you confirm?

@LockedinCycling4 жыл бұрын
HamBone123456789ten well depending on the hubs in your wheels, most mid level wheels and up offer conversion kits so you could swap just the rear end caps to make it through axle. On my build I swapped fork to the fyxation Sparta front fork to make front thru axle. I have review for that fork and you can see it in the posideon build series I’ve uploaded.

Locked In awesome. Thanks. I haven’t bought wheels yet. It seems as though I can get an adapter to make a TA compatible with the QR fork? Just curious but what are you using for wheels?
@chrislukes90375 жыл бұрын
I love the modular/future-proofed nature of this, but I'm a bit confused -- aren't you still limited to wheels that have an "OLD" (or whatever the appropriate term would be for thru-axle) of 135? The inner spacing of the dropouts doesn't appear to change, so is this truly a "conversion to 142"? I thought part of the point of increasing axle lengths was to allow truly "wider-built" wheels with more dish on the spoke angle for better strength -- what's the point of just having extra axle stick out on the outsides of the dropout?! (I realize there are other benefits to thru-axles). Maybe I'm a bit naive since I've never owned a through axle bike --is this typical for "native" 142 through axle bikes, that the inner spacing of the dropouts is still 135? Were 12x142 and QR9x135 always meant to be equivalents, and only numbered differently based on measuring conventions (...OLD for QR vs. total axle length for thru-axles...?), and it's only "boost" variations that truly increase the actual "OLD"/inner dropout spacing and effective possible hub flange width? Just guessing here, but I've also read that early through axles were "12x135")
@marshalloram19995 жыл бұрын
It’s Definitly a 142. Just need to confirm the real axel length. Thread pitch is 1.5 that much I’m sure of.

It’s stiffer, it will never slip under high torque in the rear, self centers compared to qr that can do that. For disk brake bikes this helps with brake shuttering
