Jeff Hasley’s 2nd season with the Browns under Patton his defense was #1 in opponents passer rating, #1 in completion percentage, #1 in pass defense, #2 in interceptions, then in 2016-2018 he took the 49ers from the 27th overall to the 11th overall passing defense in the league, then in 2019 he goes to Ohio State and they have the #1 defense in college football. And during his stint as a head coach at Boston College he set a lot of records there. He got them their 1st win on a AP top 25 team with a win over the 17th ranked NC State.

I really appreciate you putting this together, Peter. This was very well done and very informative to show what this guy who virtually none of us packer fans heard about and after watching this video I'm much more confident LaFleur and the Packers got the right guy. Can't wait for next season to see what we can do with all that talent on defense and to see what Jordan Love can do with a year of experience under his belt.

Damn, if this didn't get you excited I don't know what that'll take. Think about what an even mild jump for the "D" from 17 to 12, 10, or better will do for this offense. Just seeing the D-Backs line up less than 10 yds off the LOS will be a treat by itself.

Excellent episode Peter!! I can't help but feel optimistic with this DC hire. And I REALLY appreciate adding clips of our new DC speaking about his defensive philosophy, how he enjoys teaching fundamentals (tackling etc), which has been sorely sub par under JB. There was a disconnect & I feel like JB was not a good teacher & leader of men. I think JH will be.. When I first heard about the JH hire, I was immediately encouraged bc he was not on anybody's radar & the more I researched the more I liked, esp. the improvement w/ OSU defense. Thanks for the awesome show. You're deserving of many more subscribers!! Go Pack Go💚💛

He seems like a perfect fit for our athletes on defense. He also kinda reminds me of Lafleur's mentality and attention to detail. I love he's a film junkie. I really hope our guys adapt quickly to his scheme, it could help their careers and the team as a whole. I also like the four man front. We did that effectively on our four game run at the end of the season including playoffs. He'll get our DBs on the same page, working as one unit. I can't wait for training camp. I think the players will love this guy. He and Lafleur should work well together. He really seems to be a sharp guy.

This guy wasn't a good hire. He was a great hire. This is not only a leader of men, but a student of the game. He is a young mind, open to change, open to different levels of player talent and most importantly open to solving the challenges presented by NFL Offensives. This is the Packers answer to Lafluer's offense. A situation where now, the defense can be as creative and as dynamic as the team's offense. I believe this hire will pay off in Championships, not singular, but multiple. In the end I see Hafley as a head coach in the NFL. Maybe in Green Bay, depending on where Lafluer ultimately wants to be after winning a championship. Things are looking very good in Green Bay at every level. Congrats!

Just intial gut feeling i think this guy is going to work out for us. Were not asking for the #1 defense in football. Top 8-10 though considering all talent (especially 1st round, which i see us adding another one this coming draft). I think with that and another year of growth from all the youth on offense GB can be a very good team for years to come.

The biggest problem with our defensive staff is there was no successor or up and comer. The d staff is where new ideas and ambition go to die. The offense has a coordinator, quarterbacks coach and interns groomed to succeed their teachers or move on to achieve to own success. Who on the defensive staff can we say that about? We need to develop in-house candidates to succeed our coordinators!

@docsylva28767 ай бұрын
I dont know the guy... im not gonna say he's gonna fail. But this really upsets me more in a different way. that is because GB defense has been the main focus since Gutekunst arrived. Im sure all of you know that he out if the last 8 drafts he has tuned as many 1st round draft picks on defensive players. Yes. Out of 8 number ones 7 of them have been on defense =. the one he didn't was when he took love. Out of those 7 first round defensive players the defense still hasn't been great. But what I find interesting that no one seems to pay attention to is that the defense Joe Barry has and as bad as they were. they in the last 2 playoff games vs the 49ers. this defense have kept them from running away with the game. the last two playoff games the offense couldnt come thru. Im not saying firing Barry was a bad idea. im saying in the most important games we need to have in the playoffs his piss poor defense kept them close enough to steal those games. SF people is what's in the packers way of winning a super bowl. That is the packers kryptonite. I dont care about the win vs Dallas. because Dallas has a problem of faming out and they aren't the team that is in our way. if the defense has done so well vs the 49ers. It has to be that the problem is Joe Barry. not the players on defense. So they get a new guy. but now what if they get rid of some darn good players due to the switch from 34 to 43. The players needed to play a 43 are not on the roster. in a 34 smith, Gary, Campbell and walker are all linebackers. the scheme in the 34 is zone. zone play at there back end and zone play is heavily used in the linebacker position in a 34. In a 43 the outside linebackers are asked to play man coverage maybe 90% of the time. who out of these linebackers can run with offensive players in man coverage? Gary can't! smith maybe but thats 50-50. more than likely he won't be able to because he isn't very young. Also who is gonna be willing to give up inside backer since now there is only one in a 34? walker? Campbell? maybe Campbell won't return? also a 43 is more effective when you have 6-3 corners and safeties. they need to be very physical. GB dont have that. maybe Alexander but he is also old. Seriously. the strongest area they will have switching to this defense will be the interior of it with Wyatt and clark playing tackle. Lets say both aren't tackles and will be asked to be defensive ends. which maybe the case. than the interior would demand instant needs. because the packers after Wyatt and clark dont have there guys. so what I am saying is the offense still needs work and here they will be again focusing on defense and not offense when I truly believe Jordan is a playmaker or two away from getting them passed SF. Its a continuous problem and GB always seems to tare it up and do it over on defense. meanwhile people are wondering why can't they get back to the big game. that reason is because we pay less attention to offense and we are in a offensive driven league. What if this guy bombs?

The best defensive coordinators are almost all dudes with 10-15 years of NFL coordinating experience. Schwartz, Quinn, Spanuolo etc. They've seen everything. Some college coach who faced weak arm QBs in rudimentary offenses is going to fail in the NFL.

Most of you guys that cover packer. Football make verbal mistakes. Leading me to believe that you need to take more time to learn the game.. ie 3/4 vs 4/3. Mistake on yesterdays show. Middle of the field open vs closed. Mistake on todays show. I love your show and listen everyday. But. There arre only 4 defenses you can play in football....odd front 1 high, odd front 2 high. Even front 1 high, even front 2 high. Middle of the field open is 2 high. Middle of the field closed is 1 high. The difference between 33 and 43 is 2 gapping a player or 1 gapping everyone. You can also 2 gap someone in 43 and 1 gap someone in 34. Wasted breath on these differences is unheeded
@codywaligursky88737 ай бұрын
Study the difference between a 5 technique. A 7 technique.. A 6 technique and a 9 technique period that will be very beneficial to you as a football reporter. Again, I love your show.
