That heavy duty kettle was designed to sit on the back burner of a woodstove or on the back corner of a woodstove that doesn't have burners to heat water. It helped keep moisture in the air.

What a find.....Wow! That person had some real Retro stuff! We had a kettle similar, when I was young, used on top of a wood or coal stove to prove moisture in the air. Can't believe what else you may find. Maybe more firearms in the back especially if they ran a small business bar.

The tongs that you said had many uses were fencing pliers. Used to pull the steeples out when putting barbed wire on the fence posts.

Aluminum Antique Kettle used to put moisture in the air hence the corrosion. Filled with water and placed on a wood stove or heater. The water would evaporate and act as a humidifier in days gone by.

I have really enjoyed the first two videos of this unit. You filmed longer and were not in a rush. Since he did not throw everything away when he closed his bar you were able to get a lot of collectables. Some of the tools look old enough that they might have even belonged to his father.

Jack, that large pot lid is called a "universal" pot/pan lid. It will fit several size pots and pans (check out the concentric circles on the lid). It is found in 2 sizes-- the larger size like you found and a smaller size one for small pots and pans. I have at least 2 of both sizes, in both solid metal (some in aluminum and some in stainless steel) and 1 of each size in stainless steel with glass windows. They are especially good to use on frying pans of various sizes that did not come with lids, for example, cast iron.

21:08 is a sphygmomanometer aka blood pressure cuff 😉. That style is getting harder to find. It may very well sell for parts. The bladder and tubing is easily replaced. The kettle looks vintage I’m guessing WWII era, because it looks like pot metal . The sediment is normal in that type of kettle. People used to fill them with water and sit on the stove to act as a humidifier. The drinking glasses with the red design (in the disintegrating newspaper) are from 40’s or 50’s. They will sell at the vintage market.

My daughter used to work at a huge food warehouse and she knows all about the dates on foods and the date on them is like a best flavor date it does not get stale or turn to poison. I wouldn't eat it a year later as it would not have much taste by that time and of course, You should always check food for mold even if it is in date as it does happen.

My theory is a lot of the duplicates were prizes he gave away at his bar for drawings or bingo, etc. They just look like “prizes”. I also think you have multiple generations, like the son was storing stuff he cleaned out of his parent’s house.

With the exception of baby formula, food expiration dates are just suggestions for freshness. Shelf stable food especially will last well beyond that date! A LOT of companies even exaggerate the dates on purpose to increase sales. The sooner you throw away unused product, the sooner you will buy more.
