I was IFT AX in 1976 in VP-49 in Jacksonville - we didn't call it IRDS we called it FLIR . Forward Looking InfaRed Did they still use the 10 inch tape reels to load the computer ? ? ? and have iron core 64 k memory ... ( I think it was 64 k ) - When did they finally update and get rid of that ? Hey did you ever fly on a MAD comp flight ? Where you compensate the MAD tail to the earth's magnetic field ? ( Magnetic Anomaly Detector ) We flew due north - south - east - west - and in each direction the pilot did all axis maneuvers - roll - yaw - pitch - and the pitch is the part that could get you sick pretty fast - if you were in the tail section you could almost get to 0 G ' s ... Wow, the food in Sigonella was the best food I have ever eaten . I would get up out of bed at night, put on my uniform, and go eat a midnight breakfast ...Do you remember the Glen Ford movie that they showed us in P3 Training Squadron ?

Although I never got to work on this aircraft my brother did and is what got me started in aviation. They reason they can stay airborne for so long is the ability to shut down one engine in flight. Feather the props for less aerodynamic drag and shit her down.

My ex girlfriend spent 18.5 years in the US Navy as an AE (Aviation Electrician), working on P3's at both NAS Jax (AIMD) and NAS Brunswick, Maine (VP-10 "Red Lancers") with deployments in the 1st Gulf War to Sigonella, Sicily and NAS Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico. She also served tours in Hawaii (Barking Sands), Okinawa (Security Forces), and NAS Moffitt Field. She is/was quite a remarkable woman and she and I are still good, fond friends. She retired in 1994.

VP-62 Broadarrow P-3's (NAS Jax) at time 1:30-1:35...spent 23 years as a SS1 in that reserve squadron. Fantastic flights, people and had a blast. Retired an AWC in 1996. Memories of flights and places visited are enlightening!!!

Boy this brought back lots of memories. I was in VP-56 1975-1978 as a USN, right next to VP-24 in hangar 1000. Had a lot of buds in VP-24. Spent the rest of my time in the reserves with VP-67 & went to wespac every year until 1990. One question, how did the Mad Foxes sneak into the video? Finding a sub on the surface??...those Batmen/Mad foxes sure are lucky!

16 hours, our Air Force, the RNZAF, managed to keep these girls in the air for 21 hours on two engines in the 1994 Queens Birthday Weekend Storm in the South Pacific, Staying on station above yachts in trouble, vectoring our navy and over navys in for rescue, we pushed them to the limits, a fantastic aircraft, now we are soon replacing them with the P-8, us Kiwis aren't sure the Poseidon can fly 60 ft above the waves doing SAR, but we'll have to wait and see

Is this a reserve squadron...? They're acting like they've never seen a sub before, unless it's all purely to put on show for the camera... "Oh Look, A Sub, Wow... We'll have to get a closer look to see who it belongs to..." You're 8 miles of the coast of Florida, and one of the larger U.S. bases on the east coast, if there's a Russian or Chinese sub running on the surface, that close and yet still undetected, the U.S is truly in a world of hurt...
@77HarleyRider6 жыл бұрын
Those guys are active duty flyers. Us P-3 reservists can and did out-fly any active duty squadron (VP-62) because all have active duty experience on real Russian and American subs and have been doing that job for years. China Sailor...you are one dumb ass idiot.
