The Guard asked one of us if we'd swap, and go in with the Poodle, but the woman made such a fuss she was moved to an empty first class couchette with her cat! Travelled them a HUGE number of times - 9:57 and 13:21 is music to my ears! These are no doubt among the best trains you can find in France and that I've ever ridden - very comfortable and dense so perfect for regional traffic, many bike storages, and the compartments are absolutely lovely. Yes time is running out for the Corails but we've still got a fair bit of time left for the Teoz-refurbished ones at least on Bordeaux - Marseille, and as well on all SNCF night services! Since some PACA locos have recently been sent up north we can only assume loco-haul operation will still take place for a while there (most likely with V2Ns, not Corails). Awesome video! :)

Living in a region (Occitanie) which has heavily promoted the 1€ fare, particularly if you're travelling by bus. However for TER services I find the number of trains and seats available at 1€ to be too restrictive. You might be interested to learn however that as part of the EU open-access arrangements (which France is finally starting to apply!) the Marseille-Nice service is the first route that SNCF has lost, in this case to Transdev (also a French company). It'll be interesting to see what effect that has on fares and service levels! For information the Thello service has been abandoned, as well as the Russian Railways service from Nice to Moscow (which I think ended up as twice weekly) but, I reckon that'll be back once the pandemic has passed. Nice has been a massive favourite with Russians since Tsarist days and has a very beautiful Russian Orthodox Cathedral.

Spent most of my visits to France chasing CC72000s from Paris Est to Basel (Bale), Calais to Amiens, Culmont Chalindrey to Toul, Nancy to Belfort, and Paris Nord to Laon. Or BB67400s (and BB67300s) from / to Calais Maritime, Boulogne Maritime and Dieppe Maritime, or Paris Nord to Le Treport, or Paris Montparnasse on the line to Granville. London to Limoges and back in a day, with CC6500s, or the classic route to Strasbourg with BB15000s.

Nice review! Regarding those padded headrests: I find them quite annoying because they make your head bend/fall forward when you are resting, very uncomfortable. It gets even worse when you are over 1,75 tall as then your shoulders/neck is made to bend forward. Those „window sills“ / AC outlets are also at an angle- preventing you from having an armrest. And the seat arrangements are about 50% in driving direction. we need morepeople to ask for turntable seats like they use in Japan.
@NonstopEurotrip2 жыл бұрын
Personally it doesn't bother me 😜
@demil36182 жыл бұрын
@@NonstopEurotrip Yeah it‘s probably something only tall people suffer from. Hence I said, it’s when you are taller than 1.75 or so. Same goes for your arm rest: when you are tall, the arm rest of your seat is too low, so you‘d use the window. It‘s ok on short distances but on longer ones when you get tired but can’t sit comfortably, it makes the trip exhausting. DB got some fairly comfy seats on their ICEs, so has ÖBB

Other national discount cards are also a valid. - about the train: regional train on this region called now “Zou” and his name will replace “ter”. The French government finally approved in 2020 a serious upgrade plan for this line. There are 4 phases, the works on phase 1 will start in 2023. Its a multitude of new alignments, and adding some stretches of 4 tracks instead of 2. There will also be major capacity works at the Marseille station. In phases 3-4 there will also be some new stretches of line. All of this should increase capacity to about 6 trains per hour per direction, and a travel time reduction of up to 20 minutes. The total cost of the project is 14.5 billion euros. No end date has been confirmed. The goal is NOT to turn this line into a real highspeed line.

@@NonstopEurotrip Back in 1990-ish , my young son and I were returning from Villefranche Sur Mer to Dramont, and there was a horrible scream from where the trains run along the beach near Cannes. I saw horrified children running outside, the face of one boy indelible etched on my memory since then... Children had been playing ''Chicken'' across the railway track in front of the trains. And one poor child was hit. The train, naturally was delayed, and there was an announcement in French I didn't catch, but the few people in our compartment got off at the next station. Then the train, instead of carrying on to Dramont, went into those sidings at Cannes la Bocca..With me stuck on the train with son...and doors locked. I banged on the door and a fortunately a Railway worker let us out and escorted us safely over the maze of tracks to safety. He said the little boy was: ''Kaput. Fini. No more''. I remember his upset face. and of course, the poor Train driver... It would not be easy to ever recover from that. ..A tragedy for sure.
