They need to build a new science museum in Birmingham and give this beauty the display she deserves. In a sane world the old Birmingham Science museum would never have closed. This country has lost its soul!

This engine used to be in the Birmingham science museum it was presented very well !! Sadly the museum closed down ...the engine is now at a place called millennium point with all the rest of museum collection !!witch is crammed into one small area

Agree, rather see her out on the mainline. At least we have 46233 to remind us just what highly charismatic locomotives the 4-6-2 8P class was.

In the period that this fabulous loco used to run they were classified as CORONATION CLASS not as many people seem to think Duchess Class, they were never ever referred to as Duchess Class in operating days they were occasionally referred to as Semis because of the removal of the streamlining it would appear that because of the two locos rescued by Sir Billy Buttlin happened to be named after a Duchess that this name has assumed to be their classification not so.

@Rabbitbunvoo If they're not going to let her run, they might as well move it to get the full effect of its size. Putting it in the middle is what I would do and work the exhibits around it.

For a moment i thought it was another surviving member of the GWR City Class, but then i remembered "oh ye only Truro was preserved"

they should release her to a trust give her a fully overhaul so she can sit on west shed with her sister Duchess of Sutherland , and also bring Duchess of Hamilton back and have the only 3 surviving Coronations (Or Duchesses) side by side simmering away on shed :)

Should be exhibited at Lichfield TV - the closest LM mainline station to Birmingham. I'm sure that someone would be able to build something suitable to hold her (unlike the Birmingham goldfish bowl within which she currently is).

Such a wasted piece of machinery. This should be running on the mainline,as per most of the restored steam loco`s today.We would all spend money to travel behind this magnificent locomotive,earning money on B.R. metals.So much of our heritage is disappearing today,but dont worry,we can always travel on our modern electric train system...no comparison really?

soundnicetome we already have one working coronation class on the mainline and the re-streamlined duchess of Hamilton is planned for restoration to the mainline. To run on the mainline requires heavy modification which this engine never has. its being kept as original as possible, same situation as Mallard
