I'm sure you've heard, "getting locs will make your hair grow faster". It's not true though. Check out this video where I'm explaining why it appears to be that way.

I've contemplated getting locs on and off for years, but I’ve definitely decided to get them, and your information has been a very helpful part of the process. Now, with that said, had I not got into a car accident on the way to the appointment, I would be saying I started my locs rather than I'm definitely getting them. (I'm good, no injuries with either party involved, just car damage.)

From another perspective, I think people may mean that their hair grows faster when it is left to do what it does in locs vs. being loose (if they are taken care of properly) you thoughts? I do believe healthy loose hair will make healthy locs.
@CourtneyGrayton

I think that is what people mean when they say it, but I still disagree that your hair speeds up in growth after getting locs.

It really depends on the individuals regimen of hair care/healthcare. Some people’s hair does grow faster in love ( mine do )bc I leave it alone. No combing , touching unless I have to, no constant spraying , oiling etc. that’s just the way it is, everyone’s an individual & I have 4c+ hair.
@CourtneyGrayton

Just as I mentioned in the video, you are retaining length because you leave it alone. Your hair is not magically growing faster.

Can you discuss loc health/retention while aging? I had locs in my 30's and cut them off when I cut some people off. Loved them but I had to let them go. I want to loc in my 40's and hold onto them now. Any tips?

@@Antoinette922 I was diagnosed with CCCA about 10 years ago. Thankfully I went to the dermatologist early so I didn’t lose all my hair. Ive gotten steroid scalp injections as well as used topical steroid ointment. I’ve stopped the steroids but they are probably what initially saved my hair. I went mostly plant based, I do intermittent fasting, exercise helps promote circulation also. I let go of relaxers…no chemicals, no heat, no weave, no braids, no tension. Just 2-strand twists. I use only vegan hair products. Soultanicals is my holy grail. The line is black-owned and it’s pricey but it’s helped my hair so much. I also use a pomade by Qhemet Biologics with MSM and Biotin that stopped my scalp burning and helped my hair to grow. I’ve probably tried every potion and lotion and oil ever made for hair loss. Oh, and a whole lot of prayer. I’m still a work in progress but I’m at peace. When I was first diagnosed I was absolutely devastated. I’ve come to the realization that even if I lost all my hair it won’t be the end of the world. We’re so much more than our hair. I wish you all the best. Find what works for you. Be blessed.

I first began growing locs when I was 19. About every 13 years or so, I shave my head. I've noticed that as I grow older, the texture of my hair changes, making loc-ing more difficult. Your thoughts?

It's common for textures to change as we age. You will likely need to use a different method for starting than you've used before!

Hello! I'm sorry but i have a question im dying to know rhe answer for and I LOVE your channel so I trust your knowledge. There's a shampoo moisturizer retainer called by Design Essentials, I've learned about it from Damien Walters channel and am considering it. However, it mentions super detangler, is that bad for starter locs? Im on week 3 of my coil starter locs. Thank you so much for your time
