Loctite HB X Purbond: Production, Security, Flexibility - Chris Whelan, Senior Business Development Manager, Henkel
In the world of mass timber, particularly the backbone of its renaissance - CLT - 1C PUR adhesives have played a key role. 1C PUR adhesives, particularly Loctite-Purbond, made the concept of mass timber viable, with the first developers of CLT - KLH and Schilliger Holz - exploiting its benefits and launching the mass timber revolution. Since that time almost 25 years ago, approximately 95% of all CLT produced globally has been made with Loctite-Purbond. Production output, bond line security, ecology and end use performance were the corner stones of CLT produced with Loctite-Purbond that solidified CLT as a cost effective and durable building product that also met the ecological demands expected of mass wood buildings. There has been a great deal of misinformation in regard to 1C PUR adhesives and this needs to be addressed head-on if mass timber is to survive and flourish. While it’s nice to discuss 1C PUR adhesives in a general sense, only Loctite-Purbond meets all of the current performance demands in place with regard to fire and moisture durability, as such, any presentation would have to be product specific. Review of our proposed presentations by the esteemed mass timber panels members would be welcomed, in order to ensure our content is factual and relevant.
