My Gas Motorhome didn't have an Air compressor, that is an awesome feature to have! When I watched your previous videos with toting the generator out, that did help make my mind up to only buy Motorhomes. 😊 I like having the switch inside for the generator as well. You guys rock, and yes your guy's sense of humor is a big part of that. 😁

When buying a used coach , all the bugs have been gotten out. So you I think are getting the better deal. May I make a suggestion about your jeep. I'm sure you probably thought about it but i wanted to say also. Always , always pack a small Survival case for your jeep. For those times you travel onto the outback, you never know what could come up. You have small children , snacks and water, some of those space blankets , they pack so small. Dont know if you had a wench on the jeep carry a long strap . You can attach one end to a tree or sometime and wrap the strap around the tire a few times and as the tire spends it will wrap up on the tire pulling you out. And maybe a small fold up Shovel. As you travel more you'll think of other things to put in your Survival case. Dont be caught off guard -

Great decision on the diesel and update. We had an 04 Winnebago with the basement a/c as well. Quieter but slower to cool, very expensive to work on as well. I'm not sure if they still use them anymore. Like you said in your last video the residential frig will be difficult to boondock with the 3 batteries. You may have to go lithium and hit the generator in the am and PM for a couple of hours. Or, go back with the propane frig. Best of luck in your adventures.

My husband won't buy any vehicle or RV new. He says " let someone else get all the bugs worked out". Lol. I'm like Laine. I prop my feet upon the dash. And put a movie in my travel player with headphones and relax. We never stop for food at a restaurant. We make sandwiches and other things. Did you figure out the refrigerator issue about boondocking? I told Laine to contact RV Love. They have a big KZbin channel. And are very sweet couple and very helpful. Great video! thank you for sharing it! Oh man....when you came to CO, did you go to Ouray, by chance? Or, are you coming back? My wife and I are in the early motorhome searching phase. We are still trying to decide Class A vs Class C. We'll be doing 1-2 month trips, so my gut feeling is a Class A would be best with the extra underneath storage. Also, I think I'd rather get a diesel vs gas. However, with the price of those, I'd end up getting something like you guys got. How has your rig worked for you guys now that it has been basically a year?

You are very brave. We had our Winnebago Class A for almost 3 years and definitely loved traveling. We only have 2 kids and did not renovate. However, travel days, we did stop. Our kids were not allowed out of their seats because of my anxiety. We found harness boosters for up to 65 pound kiddos that could be looped through the lap belt. They stayed in their seats the entire time. Unless it was a true emergency we did not get out of the seats while driving. It freaked me out way too much. I understand the benefit and each family must make that decision for themselves. We got out of our seats while moving maybe twice in nearly 3 years. Enjoy your class A. It's a great option for families.

@@LoftisPartyofSix Here they are . Our kiddos were within the weight limit most of the time we traveled and the straps were taller than most. One huge concern I have with a class A is repair expense and road side assistance! I know you guys are just getting started but what is you plan for break downs ? That’s something I’m not sure about yet. I’m praying we have to issues! But I’ve heard it is expensive, however even the diesel 1 ton truck we had before was also expensive. So an emergency fund is what we have for issues.

The generator fuel pick up is 1/2 the way up the fuel tank so you don’t run the tank empty and leave you stranded while boondocking The down side of it being a mechanical shut off ( runs out of fuel) instead of a electronic shut off is diesel motors no matter the size don’t like being run empty, it takes forever to restart. So when your traveling through warm areas running the generator to cool the coach remember to shut it down at a 1/2 tank till empty so you don’t run it dry. FYI
@LoftisPartyofSix5 жыл бұрын
Thank you.. the previous owner told me that it would shut my generator down at 1/4 tank so that it wouldn’t run me out. Either way I’m watching our fuel levels. Thanks

I can't speak for motor homes. But I will talk about trailers. We started in a 2018 coachman travel trailer. That thing is built like disposable garbage. Low quality materials slapped together with little attention to detail. I can't wait till I can sell it. We just recently bought a 2005 Sprinter 5th wheel. So much better! Better materials and much higher build quality. If you are smart you will buy older, save money, and get a better quality rig. I just learned that lesson the hard way. Anyone want to buy my 2018 trailer that we are now $5K upside down in?

Just an FYI because a MH camper next to me once had this happen. He was running the generator because we had a power outage for days as a substation blew. He was running his generator to keep the batteries up. So he was fat dumb and happy with the genset running and they were living normally. Turns out there was a "safety" feature that turned off the genset when the fuel tank got to one quarter. That reserve was so the MH would run to get more fuel if necessary. With everything on and also not known to him, the starting batteries were in the loop to the inverter, a switch setting. No genset and the batteries drained overnight. Luckily I was able to power him from my generators, paralleled Honda EU2000i's. Got him charged enough to start so he packed up and went and got fuel so he could run the genset. So you may want to check that out on yours. Fuel cutoff and or putting the starting batteries in the inverter loop.
@LoftisPartyofSix4 жыл бұрын
Yes when I bought this MH the owner warned me of that feature. However I forgot about it in our Devils Tower vlog and thought something was wrong.. then seen my gauge and remembered 😆

Aloha. We appreciated your video and love following your family, especially seem to have a lot in common as a family who also loves Jesus and the Andy Griffith show. We wanted to ask, we are a family of 4 with a small dog and are leaning towards a Class C in 2 years... and wondered if you all would have chose a Class C over a Class A if you had a smaller family? If not, any reason other than space?
@LoftisPartyofSix5 жыл бұрын
Hi!! We have lots in common sounds like! So I strongly wanted a diesel and their are not many diesel Class C’s that I could find in our price range under 50k . And the ones I did find did not have the quality as the Class As nor the storage space, nor air bag suspension or air brakes. So I would still pick a Class A for that reason. However if I was choosing a Gas RV then a Class C might have been our choice because the quality and build features of Class C’s & As are very similar. Go walk in a few and drive them and you will notice the differences.

I found lot of class A diesels with cummins 5.9 late 90's to early 2000s for less then $18k with 30-40k miles on them . The good part about those is no emissions which has destroyed the reliability of diesel engines anything newer then 2010 stay away from. The older cummins engines tons of aftermarket parts for easy to fix them. Since I like to tinker with engines no problem doing all my own repairs.
@LoftisPartyofSix5 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s great to get an older RV in my opinion!
@Mike-012345 жыл бұрын
@@LoftisPartyofSix Reading the RV forums I guess CAT quit making the engines for newer RV's due to the Emission requirement cummins still does. I agree used RV save so much money the deprecation is amazing new can be $150k in 10 years lose 75% or more value. I don't know about the cost of repairing CAT vr Cummins I do know diesels like to blow head gaskets. Low miles RV with a diesel means it sat most of it's life on he side of some yard diesel left in tanks for long periods of time can lead to fungus growing in the tanks since fuel today has less sulfur less stable then it once was.

Scott McCloud not true at all. I'm on my second Diesel Pusher (started Rving like these good folks when my boys were toddlers, just not full time, but always "family time") My experience with them has been great. My first rig was 39 feet on a freightliner chassis with a 360 cat. Bought it when it was 3 years old with 18 thousand miles on it, and after 8 years putting on 65 thousand miles no major issues. My current rig is 45 feet on a spartan chassis with a 450 cummins. Bought it new in 2016 and have put 22 thousand miles on it with no major issues. Oh, and everything still works! Yes they are complex machines, but they are built to go half a million to a million miles. Your right about things being more expensive, for instance.. my engine holds 6 gallons of oil. Most places charge more than 300 for an oil change, but I can do it myself for around 70 bucks. They are heavy duty and if you take care of them, they'll give you good service. Sounds like you have had some bad luck with your diesel pushers, and I hate that for you, as I know how expensive these things are. @@Just_a_Proud_Dad I stand by my original. 80% all of the time. there is a burnt lightbulb or loose tile or a corner of wallpaper coming loose or a broken cabinet lock or a leaky faucet or a squeak in the overhead. the list is (always) endless.

When driving through Colorado a few days ago we thought about your family. Have y’all been to the National Sand Dunes?

I’m looking at diesel pushers to haul my Jeep also. With the kids and wife it would make trips to crawling destinations that much more comfortable and be a good way to tow it. I’m looking for one to haul the Jeep on a trailer my jeeps a little more rock crawler/a little less street legal. Did you have a hard time financing that old or did you not finance it? Personal question I know, but that’s the era I’m looking for, up to 2007 and I’m reading it can be impossible to finance as a motorhome, and I might have to get a personal loan which I’m not interested in doing for the high interest rate.
@LoftisPartyofSix4 жыл бұрын
We did finance it with a credit union and they didn’t say anything about the age. However I have heard something about that from others but I think it was on much older rigs like 20 yr+. I don’t think you will have any problems financing in that year range. Also I think Bank of the West or Good Sam has financing for RVs at good rates. We found our best rate was a credit union.

Just curious, how much fuel does the generator burn per hour under a decent load?
@LoftisPartyofSix5 жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t know. Since it’s tied into the main fuel tank I can’t really keep track of generator usage vs driving usage.

Michael Thanks for the tour of your beautiful Class A Coach . Love all the awnings & features that it has . Are all the awnings manual or motorized ? Love your parents beautiful home & the setting where it's located . Does your parents have any animals ? Happy trails & safe journeys always & keep the rubber on the road between the lanes . Cheers guys !

The main awning is motorized but the ones over the windows are all manual. We actually filmed this at our friends place in Colorado. Are next video will be us leaving MO for CO. Yes we plan to be back to the beach again so hopefully we will see ya!

@@LoftisPartyofSix Thanks for your reply . OK I hope to see ya also . North of me on US - 19 in Port Richey there is a WALMART behind McDonalds where I can meet up with you like I did awhile back when Ageil Vrapi & his family from When in Rome travels were in my area . They parked their Class A coach in the parking lot , detached their little Fiat tow car & from there we went to a place for lunch .

😆 yes we get asked a lot what are we saying. It’s actually Yuns, that spelling makes it a little more hillbilly 😆. In all my replies I always do “y’all” because it’s easier for people instead of Yuns!

LPO6 you guys rock! My party of 5 hopes to hit the road in 3 and your Jeep solution solves a problem for us. Not a mechanic guy and have some concern about buying a used DP. Rob
@LoftisPartyofSix5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’m no mechanic guy either.. but think about this.. most used Class As are owned by wealthy older people who take care of their stuff. They do the regular maintenance, etc! And most don’t put very many miles on them compared to autos.. and diesels are made to last 500k-1mill miles. So it’s easy to find a good well maintained Class A that should last a long time!

I stumbled upon a few of your videos and I absolutely love your family and what you are doing! I feel like God led me directly to your videos! My husband and I are empty nesters and I have felt God tugging on my heart to simplify our life. We are in escrow to sell our home in CA and moving to AZ so that we can pay cash for a smaller home. We are also upgrading our motorhome and I'm looking at a 2005 Itasco Meridian diesel pusher. I love all your helpful information - thank you! I am so impressed by what you are doing for the good of your family. God bless you all!
