The new, redesigned Lofty Wiseman Survival Tool is what the survival and bushcraft fraternity has been waiting for. The tool is made entirely in England. The materials and method of manufacture are well tried and tested. The blade handle and bolster are formed from flat stock carbon steel (EN9) traditionally used in the manufacture of agricultural cutting tools of all kinds. This steel will take shock, hold an excellent edge, and is reasonably easy to sharpen.
Once the knife is hand ground it is hardened (54 Rockwell) and the handle fitted. The Handle is made of Beech - CNC milled by a firm of master gunsmiths - Boxall and Edmiston. The final honing of the edge completes the process, and once fitted into its purpose designed Cordura sheath it is safe and ready for use.
This tool has been designed to carry out tough and arduous tasks with great efficiency. It is sufficiently well balanced to make more delicate tasks surprisingly easy. The steel chosen will bend rather than snap. The knife includes a heavy weight Cordura Sheath.

Go to the Philippines for a good knife made from a car spring. I paid $2 for one 20 years ago. Still going strong looked very much like this one it is called a bolo. Everybody uses one over there.

Finally an actual survival instructor that's not afraid to carry and use a big knife. They teach you that shelter and fire are the most important things then they tell you to do it all with the tiny knife. SMH any competent person handling a large knife can put up shelter and make fire much easier then with a small knife. Just look at indigenous cultures.

Lofty still holds the record for being the youngest trooper to pass SAS selection, at 18 years old. Legend. When you consider most successful recruits are in their mid 20s, and have a few years of experience in their original regiment, it's even more impressive that Lofty passed after only 1 year in the Paras.

When you pass a knife to someone, you hold the blade between your finger and your thumb with the sharp edge up or away from the other person and the handle pointing to whoever you are handing it to or to the side which allows them to carefully and safely grasp it by the handle lift up as they draw it towards them and there’s absolutely no way anybody can be injured Lofty of course did it correctly

I boughty the 8" as well as the 13".I spent almost $500 hard earned bucks on them. I absolutely love the blade: however, both knives showed up new in the box with the handles cracked through the screw holes closet to the hilt. I could not get any satisfaction from the manufacturer to replace my handles. I have much respect for Lofty, as I am a Vietnam combat Marine, and I know much of what he preaches. I do think that he should monitor the manufacturer more closely. The blades carry his name.

Lofty passed selection at age 18 there is a simple answer to that he was a born soldier. He has excelled as a soldier and at his projects because I believe he loves what he does to the point it is who he is.Survival is a craft Lofty has developed skills in this area to the level of becoming a specialist in the subject recognised world wide. There is no doubt the SAS is the most highly trained regiment in the world if they use Loftys methods that’s good enough for me.The SAS survival handbook is available for digital download now get it on your phone a entire encyclopaedia of survival skills at your disposal you never know.

Anyone wishing to obtain a decent survival knife just visit the local SCUBA diving gear store. The type with the pommel tang being a hammer head is the best.(personal opinion) An edge can be put on the blade that will slice tomatoes and then cut bamboo with no problem. Best of all, the prices are not extortionate. Almost forgot, they make short work of skinning virtually any animal.

A scandi grind kukri, differential temper without a relief cut (cho) and with a handle design which means your wrist is working instead of a pinch grip where the blades weight does all the work..... for 10x the price.... Good idea to bring in some income, picked about the most efficient possible shape, but....

Fair play to Lofty for capitalising in the growing interest in bushcraft with this latest design. His SAS survival guide is what introduced me to all this in the first place. However this knife is possibly overdesigned and a bit exclusive whereas the Nowill&son parang sticks closer to the traditional design which attracted people like Lofty to the parang in the first place.

The larger piece of wood was cut with a saw. Notice the size of the wood that the knife is used on. Good for the tropics and handling modest sized samplings. For bigger stuff a saw/ax will make your work lighter. Use whatever you like.

For decades the Gorkha regiment soldiers (also trained and employed by the British during WW2) have been using the Khukri knife which is their standard issue, battle tested, tried and true weapon, whose design the knife in this video distinctly resembles. I have personally had hands-on experience with the knife and their durability is known to be unparalleled. It’s been there for ages now and are still in use by the Nepalese military. Do check it out.

I live in the U.S.A. it's hard for us to pay by check, and I love tools like that, so I got a Khukuris from Himalauan Imports, I got the W.W. 2 military model M43, It came in as a beast of a knife, beautiful, the only thing it was a bit heavy to carry all day long, since they are hand made from truck leaf spring's of 5160 steel, Yangdu told me I could have any configuration made, I had one made with white bone handles, full tang, and thinner,it's beautiful and not that expensive.

Lofty is the true deal, not the sofa coacher or the bushcraft sales-man...! Ans yes, I have his book...in fact I have 3 (one digital in my phones and 2 hard copies...gladly, because I can not find one of them...perhaps lies in one of the old rucksacks...) The "machete" seems fantastic, a wise mix of bolong, parang an kukhri... I especially like the smaller version as my environment is not the harsher jungle! I only do not like the flattened end of the handle... in the picture it is rounded up and seems much better!

Got an old Kukri too, although it doesn't come with a story apart from it making it's way into NT Australia somehow. I'd guess it might have been traded by a Gurka in hospital or on his way home after the war (Gurka were stationed protecting aussie militia's flanks in Papua (Kokoda track)). My father was given it by a pig hunter up there. Want to get one of those little short ones for a belt knife.

I think he meant it is 1.5mm thinner at the tang compared to the upper spine of the blade, slip of the tongue, so it's 4.5mm tang thickness and 6mm blade spine thickness, to move the P.O.B up further towards the blade end.

eitkoml He's not really trying to sell to Malaysian's is he? He'll know there are loads of locally made Parangs for a fraction of the cost there. Europe traditionally uses an axe in the Parang role so there's his competition, in the long run it may benefit Malaysians as he is creating a market where there wasn't one for a Malaysian product. There are variations on Parangs all over the world, it's not a new idea and its not original, if Lofty manages to draw attention to the Malaysian version over all the others he's done you a big favour.

To be fair, she didn't have the sheath, he did. Because you don't hand someone a knife. You set it down first and have them pick it up. So in actuality she did the safest thing she'd could've done, which is stick the knife in the wood and allow him to take it and re-sheath it.
