Log based metrics and alerting in Grafana Loki

Thanks for the video. Couple of questions: 1. Does Loki only generates labels and not the actual logs? What I see from the video is DEBUG, WARN etc., is it possible to get the actual logs? 2. When creating an alert whenever I have an error in the logs, basically I need to use Prometheus instead of Loki? If yes, how would it collect logs if I’m not using Loki?

1, It stores the actual logs, yes 2, Alerting has improved a lot since I made the video. Grafana now revamped its alerting section and you can defined it in Grafana without dealing with Prometheus.

Thanks, but there is "Alerting" in the title of the video, and I cannot see the alerting. generating an alert with Grafana is not alerting. Alerting is the management part of the business, how can you connect to slack, rocket, discord etc... Mails are unusable for this topic.

Loki can no longer be used as a Prometheus data source. "Using Loki as a Prometheus data source is no longer supported. You must use the Loki data source for your Loki instance."

Good entry level tutorial, but thing that feels missing is alerting part. You created an alert for specific event, but didn’t showed how to configure alert sending. For example I want to get message in Slack/Telegram/IRC channel/e-mail. What options are possible? How to setup it? I guess if you explain this part and show few real-world examples - it will be god-tier tutorial.

I am not getting loki metrics as a datasource, only getting loki as datasource and not able to set the alerts, can you assist

Hi Dheeru, did you use 1clickinfra for your setup? I demod the setup on a meetup recently and it has all the datasources: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH2XmoispLiGZ9U maybe it helps.
