Nice job Catherine...liked the slow-mo's...they proved that there is 'beauty' in everything...'if' U look 4 it! I'll just bet with all the bird population U have about U, some 'tweets' were: 'Ah shucks'! in relation 2 U putting on the soffits. The shop looks GREAT! I wonder how U came about such a design? Methinks many books were used as reference and several of your visits to smithy's had U finalize your present 'dream-come-true'. Happy 4 U! I was thinking the front could hold a nameplate, and pondered on a name...but all I can tell U is; 'Valley Forge' is taken! LOL! To beard or not to beard that is the question. Seems Abraham Lincoln 'bearded up' at the prompting of a young 11 year old girl, who told him while campaigning that he would look better, and so he 'grew' her advice. Thanks much 4 sharing. Health 2 U both and God's blessings! :)

Shucks, Valley Forge is taken. I’m not very imaginative,I’m simply calling it the Blacksmith Shop. Actually just finished hand painting the sign, you’ll see in next week’s episode. That is indeed a true story about Abe. He always loved frankness I a person … one can just see the smile n his face when the young lady suggested the beard!

Watching this I was getting curious, maybe it has been answered already, about protectant for the wood, both the logs and the boards. Any type of stain, paint, or sealant going to be used? I assume you plan to use something more period correct.
@TheWoodlandEscape2 жыл бұрын
Most likely a linseed oil on the logs. I’m going to let the pine board and batten simply age, much like the old barns in these parts. I might speed up the patina by applying vinegar with metal fillings to etch the wood a darker colour. Certainly not historically accurate but, it will look the part, lol.
@kenbutcher51582 жыл бұрын
Everyone has their own preferences, but for me that hammer face needs dressing to be a slightly flatter and much rougher surface. I can't help but think about it each time I hear it slip on a nail head. I would just touch it on a 36 grit belt parallel with the handle, but that's not period appropriate I suppose. It's great to see your progress and I love the "wee bit of history".
@kevinleeobermeyer56012 жыл бұрын
Could just rub it on a rock for a few seconds to mark it up a little

Hey Peter , I got a question that has nothing to do with this video , but you might be the person to ask , because of your knowledge of ( and love ) history . I got stung five times today by a sworm of bees , once and in order on my upper arm then once on my shoulder , then my ( just above or top of ) my nose then the back of my neck and last my head , it didn't even hurt at all at first , but after about ten minutes my face started to hurt , my nose swelled up so did my upper lip and it got numb ( that ( the numbness ) made realize the swelling . Then almost immediately my feet started to itch , insanely . I have athlete's foot ,but have not had any trouble with it for a long time , ( I do things to take care of it , so I don't have to deal with it ) I think the bee stings , made the athlete's foot , come on , and just before the swelling started to go down, the iching stoped . So my question is how is this possible ? Do bee stings , affect athlete's foot , in that way ? I googled , " bee stings affecting athlete's feet , but all I found was that they can use bee venom ( sting ) to help cure athlete's foot. So it obviously affects it , but Google didn't say , or have any information on bee stings making your feet itch . So I know it's a crazy request but any information you could come up with , that might shed light on this , would be very much appreciated , and certainly interesting , if it could be tied to " A We Bit of History "

I’m drawing a blank on the bee thing Walt but, I’ll look into it .
