You make it look easy when you sum it all up in under 5 min. Lots of hard work went into that cabin. You should be very proud of all the accomplishments. Job well done.

Thousands of men are now sitting back day dreaming about doing something like this, sadly only a few ever will. We are inherently wired to build a shelter, it’s why kids build forts to practice like puppy dogs fighting other pups...there is something almost spiritual about watching this man build his cabin all alone in the forest. Well done. Thanks for sharing

My question is, should you be mad at one guy chopping down a few trees for a cabin, or should you be angry at the corporations behind mass deforestation across the globe? I think we all know the answer. Edit: a damn gorgeous cabin at that, this is great work

@C W there is a difference between an environmentalist and a poser, an environmentalist knows that these are maple trees and by the location which is canada they know that its a fast growing and sometime invasive species. Its not wrong to build a cabin out of it, its what real men do, with the available resources, its sustainable. The people who are talking shit probably dont have proper education, and know nothing about the environment or the means of conservation. And you also dont get to generalize " environmentalist" because what you are saying isnt true.

It's very interesting coming back to this video after watching Shawn finally cover half of the roof building his new cabin. The construction methods are totally different and you can tell he's learned a lot over the years. What happened at the first cabin really sucked, but seeing the new one and the new property he's building it on I think it was for the best. The new cabin looks amazing so far and is massive in comparison!

@@HEYWANDERER someone moved in near his property and they were going to build a road via public domain right on top of the cabin through his property. Also if I remember correctly in a video he said his neighbors were also a bit rude and may have doxed his location. The man just wants to live a quiet peaceful life, can't really blame him for moving and starting over.

A quick comment to the people who downvoted due to tree slaughter: as long as the cabin doesn't burn down, all the embodied carbon will stay in the logs, and selectively cutting down trees will allow more vegetation to flourish in its place. As long as he's not clear-cutting the forest, this is a very sustainable means of construction.

I used to think climate change didn't exist either. But eventually the more I dove into the science if it, the more irrefutable I found it and the flimsier the arguments against it became. I know the comments section on KZbin is not the place to convince anyone, but keep an open mind, research the other point of view, and you might surprise yourself.

I don’t understand this comment. Did you not see this video? Your statement makes it sound like videos like this aren’t on KZbin anymore, even though this video shows the opposite is true. Not only that, search for videos like this and there’s thousands of videos of diy stuff. You just need to know where to look and how to search. Don’t be so nostalgic when it hasn’t even changed much.

Landon Brown that’s still an issue in pretty much all of the US. Can’t build it too close to the property line can’t build it over a certain sq footage or else you have to pay the government money for a permit and then you have to pay them more money to get it inspected and in some places you can’t even chop down the trees without getting a permit for every single one

I have friends building a similar home outside Fairbanks AK. I know how much work goes into a project like this and they have help. Although your video does a great job it doesn’t show the sweat, bloody knuckles, frustrating do overs and sore muscles for a year or more. You are a rare breed of man not seen in this day and age. Thank you for showing us there are still good men around will old fashioned skills.

Hi Shawn , I have been watching the progress of your Log Cabin In The Forest since its beginning , I have to say that it's been much more than a cabin building lesson for me . From learning how to use natural materials harvested from the forest using absolutely no power tools as well as your Self Reflections at the ending of each video , I have learned much more about myself my dreams and goals that I've realized through your teachings are even at the age of 57 , still obtainable for me. Thank you Shawn. I do have to say although we have never physically met and we come from completely different lifestyles, I consider us friends . So I'll finish this long comment with two simple words . Thank you.

I agreed when you said about all these bad people criticizing you. You are enthusiastic, you don’t give up! Be proud of yourself as all your nice subscribers are, including myself! In my concept you are big example of life! Congratulations! DarkClow 1983 1)I don't think the word genocide means what you think it means. 2) He plants new trees. 3) It's a demonstration, not a housing project. 4) In many instances using "modern materials" would consume far more natural resources than it would to build something with the resources at hand.

Coming from tons of NZ hippie country life videos. This is the best country cabin making video and the must have constructing house skills. This is what we so called a COMFORTABLE AND SIMPLE COUNTRY LIFE but not that easy. I nearly forgot the most fundamental to burn the wood surface to deter termite damaging the cabin wood. A cabin by a person in fast moving. Actually it must take longer time to finish a cabin project. I give A+ for this American style cabin. HAHAHA A real stuff attract 1B ASAP............ STF.. . .........
