I have the 30 ton model of this, with the log catch tray. The tray makes a HUGE difference in protection and efficiency. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, Dirty Hand Tools is no longer in business. They're great machines. Glad you get to use it! Happy splitting!

Try a fiskars vs red oak. They work very well and red oak splits fairly easily by hand. Take care friend and God bless.

Very few know how to use the wedge on the spliter....it's a boring long process to carve a piece at a time but if you fracture and retract as you turn the round you get free splits and the round has no choice but to fall apart from the bottom protrusions
