Good vid. I have used this technique for making bow staves and also for crafting planks. Much more satisfying than buying them from the big box stores. And as I understand it, this technique was used in former times to craft the planks used in ships and buildings.

Great work fella! How would you quarter it using that method if you didn't have the other log on the ground? Doable but more difficult??

Hello, it was deleted by the host due to their company folding up. But I have a saved version, just negotiating a new host. Hopefully it will be back up soon. Thanks for you kind comment.

Could you suggest me a Video where you or another host shows how to make a longbow out of such a piece of wood?

Hello... sorry for delay, i dont get on to the net that often. The log had been felled about 2 months ago, if not slightly longer. Cant be exactly sure as had been living in Cumbria for a while and had not been in my local woods for ages. Oh i do have permission to do this kind of thing there! Thanks for subscribing.

yes, I'm from the US. many things I read / see about the UK related to knives and guns make me think its really restrictive over there. I am pretty neutral about guns, I only have a .22. But knives are a different story! I thought people here were knife-phobic. Here you can carry a folder under 4" in the city, and out of the city you can carry anything you want. I do like and use the term "bushcraft", it sounds allot less threatening to people than "survival".

Why do you keep calling your tool a AXE when it is a hatchet ? Even the company calls it a Wildlife hatchet. How does this method work on a piece of wood other than one of the straightest grained wood Ash ? Nice video and clarity of method.

You are completely clueless. We speak for a log splitting with small axe, NOT FOR MATCHSTICK SPLITTING and we mean a decent splitting not just taking few parts apart and make it happened right at every atemp. Educate yourself before start making criticism.
