That is so cool that you got to sit on the log that becomes the boards that goes in the 1888 building that you are continuing to write it's history!

Worked in a sawmill when I was younger. Actually very hard work but really interesting too. And the smell ah, parfum du pine.

If there were a candle scent or a cologne that smelled like sawmill I’d buy it.

@@DraysWorld If you ever get a chance at the sawmill, go when they are sawing cedar boards. Best smell ever. Very calming.

From the blade to the bank. This was like an episode of How It's Made. Love seeing how the boards are made. Awesome.

In the middle ages they used freshly cut beams for the huge roofs of the churches. So don't hesitate to put them in early.

That is good information to know. Thank you for the comment.

@ They might bend and twist a bit, but with solid stabilizers between the joists and firmly embedded in the walls there is not a lot wiggling possible. The traditional way of putting joists in existing walls is by deepening and widening the fitting holes, so You can slide it in horizontally at an angle, then align the joist in front of the hole on the other wall and push it in there. Sure, there will be empty space in the first hole behind the joist, but it doesn't matter. And don't forget treating the ends of the joists to prevent rot.
@DraysWorld11 күн бұрын
This is what I envisioned. Good call on treating the ends.

Oh thank you for taking us along to the lumber mill! I love the smell of just cut lumber. The difference between the two cutting areas manual vs automated was so interesting. Just a joy to tag along with you! So excited to see the finished wood coming into the bank. So great to see your excitement, also. Now to the boots! What pride they take making their boots. They are beautifully made and look so comfortable. Thanks for taking us to the store with you. Must look them up! Bravo to them reaching out to you! You are so honest and forthright and a true 'working' man! 🙂 Always excited to see one your videos pop up and it is a sheer delight to take this bank renovation journey along with you and Sarah. (Wow! went to Tecovas site and was so surprised at their prices thought they would be much higher. Next time back in Florida to visit my family I will for sure visit their store in Tampa!)

Hi Dray, it great that you could watch your boards being manufactured, when you were at the mil., you looked like a kid let loose in a candy shop, now as for your dancing skill, I say NO comment, best regards to you and Sarah from Australia, Les

I would remove the middle section and leave the outer joists (which are in the walls) in place and sister the new boards/joists next to the outer joists. The middle section seems the bit that is "out of alignment". Adding joists is always easier then removing, demolition, preventing damage to pieces you like to keep, preventing damage to the floor boards upstairs... just not worth it... Just remover the middle section and sister away to make the section of three joists strong again...
@DraysWorld12 күн бұрын
I am considering this. Thank you for the suggestion. I appreciate it.
@koningbolo470010 күн бұрын
@@DraysWorld If you are sistering boards please use construction adhesive and screws to form a strong beam. Where a joint is you can make the beam even stronger by use of these nailer plates used in truss construction (and use screws to fasten them) For the water damaged joists you could maybe get away with cutting the old ones away and flex/bend the new ones in place. I surely would copy the blocking method the original carpenter used to prevent the boards from twisting. I am not sure how bendy the new boards are and how much wiggle room you have in either joist pocket but I think you could bend the boards (using a heavier duty ratchet strap (attached to two backer boards about 2-3 feet from the ends) to massage the boards in their places... I would do a test on the floor to see how much "shorter" you can get the boards as then bend... You need to remove the original water damaged boards anyways so you can then measure how much room you need and figure out if the bending method works. Also you may need to figure out if the last board can deflect enough as the first two are in place or if you need to leave the first two boards bend up up there to make room for the last one to deflect...

you need to learn your structural- members terminology and stop calling everything a "board".😂 joist(or specifically a floor joist, or a ceiling joist). floorBOARDS. stud. beam. rafter. lath strips. ...probably no point in learning more than those, for the weekend warrior/joe homeowner. ...looking forward to seeing the final product one day!
