The third in our series of Restored footage of cut scenes from 'Logan's Run" - the mazecar journey to Cathedral! With complete uncut dialogue and music! Enjoy from "The World of Logan's Run"
Check out my two other Logan's Run videos with missing dialogue intact:
New You 483 Reception Area scene: • Logan's Run New You Sc...
Box Ice Sculpture scene: • Logan's Run Box Scene ...
Mazecar Video Complete Dialogue breakdown:
J: Are the cubs really as wild as they say?
L: You've never been there, have you?
J: No, of course not.
L: Well you wanted to come with me. You'll find out. Oh, they're wild all right They're the violent ones. There's no place else for them unless they change.
J: Some people say its because they're born in breeders. Had you heard that?
L: We're all born in breeders. But most of us don't end up running wild in Cathedral.
J: No. But they say Human mothering might be better. I wish I'd known my mother.
L: (laughs) Where do you get these crazy ideas. When did you first begin to question Last Day?
J: I didn't say that I questioned it.
L: Well, do you?
J: Do you believe Flameout in the ultimate thrill? Well, do you?
C: Entering a reservation for violent delinquents.
J: I've never been in this quadrant before. Is that Arcade over there?
L: (agrees) uh-hum. Request door open. Cathedral Plaza.
C: Logan 5. Authorized to enter risk area.
L: They shut it to keep in the cubs. When they're flying on muscle there's no other way to control them.
J: Muscle? I that a drug?
L: (agrees) uh-hum.
J: I've never heard of it.
L: Well, it's unauthorized. Speeds up the reflexes. Hm.. anyway - no good for anyone over 13. Shake you and me to pieces.
(Door opens)
L: No. Let me go first. Sometimes they're waiting just inside there. Quick! Before it closes.
Final notes:
The missing dialogue was from a recording made at an early screening of the movie made on a tape cassette in early '76. One audience member smuggled in a tape player and recorded the movie while it played. This complete audio recording of the entire first-cut and showing of movie still appears online from time to time. It contains dialogue from all of the scenes which were later cut from the movie before it premiered - including the infamous Box Sculpture scene, more dialogue from New You, Flameout at Carrousel discussion at the beginning of the film and Francis' first hunt scene in tracking a runner though Arcade that occurred before Logan visits Nursery. Lots of interesting scenes that make the movie 'read' better than the final cut (imo). According to the director, Michael J Anderson, most due to time and not really content.

I remember being a kid when I first saw "Logan's Run", thinking how turning 30 was so far away for me. Now, 60 is not in the too far distant future for me, and I think now how being 30 is so young. I love this movie.

We got a little dividend from the Sci-fi books of the 60s and 70s with shows like Space 1999 trying to stay in that vein but the simple stories with the better effects was going to have the mass appeal. In a way I'm glad the Star Wars type stuff won out as it means the classic more cerebral stuffs legacy won't be destroyed by modern "remakes".

Logans Run is a fun movie and was probably not cheesy when released, but Star Wars rendered it cheesy within a year. Logans Run I think was 2nd tier Sci-Fi with Kubricks 2001 being the gold standard to that date. Star Wars was a game changer. Still love Logans Run, part of the love is that it is so dated and its a scifi disco movie in a mall. Plus Jenny Augutter .

The movie was partly shot in LA for interior scenes. For the crowd scenes, this was the Apparel Mart in Dallas. Many of the Dallas actors/models got jobs as extras. The day was long, but the work was easy, and the costumes were comfy. What surprised me was how well they fed us. There was a breakfast snack area of donuts and fruit. Often the director was there, a nice friendly man with no apparent ego, saying hellp. For lunch, we got chicken, fish, steak dinners. The first time they blew up the huge crystal, the assistant directors told the crowd to run, and then the crystal blew up, not the right order. So, a day was spent taping/or something, to fix the crystal and film the scene again, this time correctly, with the crystal blowing up and then the crowd reacting by screaming and running away. This was a fun film to work on:)

Wow look how beautiful Jessica is in Logan's Run in this clip below. Her face is so symmetrical and looks so innocent, naive and unspoiled. There's a purity and grace about her facial expression that's so beautiful. You never see that on women's faces today. And her legs are so long and sexy too.

nate Johnson Cheesy compared to what? One can't compare it to Star Wars which came out the following year; That was a huge leap in in special effects and production . It really is one of the more solid sci-fi movies of it's time. The only reason people may think it's cheesy has to do with a younger generation comparing it to modern films with CGI which isn't objective. I've seen the same attitude with Clash of The Titans. When one is saying "cheesy" it might as well have been on MST3K. There is no way these movies could be ripped on.

This was the good ole' days of sci-fi. People make fun the relatively low budget productions and lack of digital effects which had to relied on models and even stop animation. Yeah, it may look a little cheesy to even those like me that saw these as kids, but sci-fi today that is totally reliant on CGI often sacrifices content. This is why the more CGI Star Wars used the more it sucked! Most CGI reliant sci-fi today sucks. They rely on it so much today, CGI can took worse that the use of models in the 70s. Actually, this was pretty good production for its time.
