Well done! Keep documenting these malls before they go away forever. I grew up in the area and saw how amazing this place was in the 90s. Really miss that spiral ramp that they got rid of after the fire.

Grew up in Altoona. This mall was booming when i was in HS in the mid 80's. Was where everyone hung out on weekends. Sad to see it, and most malls, become near vacant.

Grew up about 10 minutes away (driving obviously) and this was the best place to buy something from any kind of shop or have a slice of pizza before seeing a movie. Now it's all abandoned. Pretty sad, though TBH it reflects the whole area.

I also did a video of this mall but I didn't go into much detail like you did. I grew up not very far from here. My hometown is Gallitzin PA but I now reside in the Riggles Gap area of Altoona.

When this mall opened, to promote it, they brought in sand for the parking lot and had Sam the Sham and the Pharohs give a concert. I was there as a 13 yr old.

Nice. Captian and Tinnille also performed here on opening day. There's a really cool video online that I should have included. It is about 10 minutes or longer if I remember correctly.

If you look at from the perspective of the shift towards online shopping, strip malls and lifestyle shopping centers with big box. It’s just that traditional malls have been on the decline since the late 90s. So, it’s just that people aren’t shopping at these type of places anymore. It’s changing times.

I never thought it would happen that malls would fall out of disfavor. I can't help but think that the rents must have become extremely high to cause stores to move elsewhere.

Since this video, we lost Cinnabon and a few others. Rue21 just announced they were closing.

Names like “Cinema 4” were only amazing if the sign was in one of those old school circus style fonts! 😂

Yes. We were teens in the 80's and the senior citizens hated us. They rode the bus by the dozens to the mall for FREE to get their FREE senior citizen deals with their FREE senior citizen cards. Funny how that 65+ generation disappeared right after Y2K.
