Hey Wade, great video. What is this file meeting that you keep talking about? I just got a mobile vertical band mill that I am fixing up (@Detorno Does sawmill part 1) I know it is nothing like you run or others at the meeting might as well, but it would be interesting to learn more about the industry and what distributors deal with the larger bands and how to maintain them.

If some folks would start logging in the back and work there way to the front they wouldn't have to drag over all the stumps and tops but most people start up front and work there way to the back then u have to deal with all the junk dragging though it

As far as hard maple, man, it's a great wood and I use it a lot in my woodworking. It really works well as a contrasting wood to some of the darker species like walnut. You could mill some of the nicer hardwoods you guys cut and sell it online. I've bought from a few places online. I don't know the business so it may be something that's not worth it to you or you're not set up for. Just spit balling.... 🤷♂

I am in white pine country and I am contracting for Woodgrain Inc. and I am pretty sure they are the biggest White Pine consumer in the world and they just put me in a Poplar tract.... just at our one mill we deliver to they have 3 million feet of whites on the yard and they have mills around the world. White pine is dead as a hammer here. No mill I know of will even take a log. By the way.... what is up with the beanie weanie can zip tied in the corner of Titus?

Hancock Lumber? I know they are the biggest in the US.
@timberslasher4899 Жыл бұрын
@@royordway9157 Hancock is pretty small next to Woodgrain. Hancock is mainly an extreme North East US company. Woodgrain is worldwide with many mills in other countries with mills in the US from coast to coast pretty much. I know that Woodgrain and East Coast Millworks(ECMD) are the 2 biggest white pine consumers in the world. Woodgrain is Home Depot's largest supplier of millworks while ECMD is Lowe's Companies biggest supplier. The reason that I know these stats is because my sister is an executive with ECMD and she likes to give me crap about logging for their only real competitor. Only difference is that ECMD does none of their own logging in the US although they do in Brazil. With that being said it is possible that ECMD is buying massive amounts of white pine from Hancock but I doubt it because most of their operations in the US are here in North Carolina where white pine is super abundant. Most people don't realize that in this area above 2,000 feet it is pretty undeveloped and it is probably 75% white pine and logging is big business here. North Carolina is the number 3 logging revenue state in the nation. You go nowhere here without seeing log trucks all over the road. That is why Woodgrain Inc. has been buying every mill here that they can get their hands on. Well this has been a bit of a ramble of useless facts.

@@timberslasher4899 I was going by what I read in a newspaper in the past 6 months. With the aquation of some more mills in New England, Hancock became the largest manufacturer of Eastern white pine in the US.
@timberslasher4899 Жыл бұрын
@@royordway9157 I won't disagree that they may be the biggest harvester themselves. Woodgrain is the biggest consumer, but not necessarily the largest harvester I guess because I know that they told us that their contract like loggers only satisfy 50 to 55 percent of their demand. They purchase the other percentage from sawmills.
