The old people told me that chestnut trees used to be that size when they were younger. Those trees towered over everything else in the forest and had stumps you could park a Model T on, then the chestnut blight killed them all. We got robbed of something there. Can your mill slab the whole length of those stumps? You might could get some high-dollar, conference-table tops out of the more solid ones.

You lifting those big ones sounds like the scene off the Grinch trying to lift the sleigh up from falling over the cliff lol.
@scottw.24502 жыл бұрын
Haha, never seen anyone lift trees with an ax, but danged if it didn't work. With cypress it works better to go deeper with the face/notch to get under it more because of the bell bottoms. East coast and west coast fallers are always criticizing each other for their methods and think their way is best but there's a reason why they do what they do. The wood is just that different. 36" bar, higher stumps, and humbolt undercut, and stacking wedges works really good felling cypress. like you said they're western looking things. I think I read somewhere cypress is in the same genus as sequoia, but from what I understand sequoia, unlike redwood, isn't good for lumber, but cypress like cedar is a desirable lumber.

great video.i think mamas right you need to make tables out of them.if you watch videos from europe they cut a square pocket in the bottom of the tree to fit a bottle jack in and use it to push the tree over ,also some have a turnbuckle on a pole and they wedge it on the back side and use the turnbuckle to push the tree over where they want it.slick system
